I am actually using one of the older Topping DACs now (D70s with the AKM chipset) which only decodes MQA over USB but I like it. My Node2i behaves exactly like this as well with my D90SE (and apologies for rectifying this old post). I can’t set the Topping in exclusive mode because it doesn’t recognize the manufacturer (it’s not on their list) - so it doesn’t even offer that option. I will check on this as soon I get my E50 this week and plug it into my NODE but the E50 is only MQA Renderer when feed via Coax/Opt inputs.

I never did get to the bottom of it and was tired of going back and forth between the two companies.

The problem that you face that I’m not sure about is that your turntable source would be better using the E50 as the preamp, but if you wanted to use the Shield remote it would be better in DAC mode.Having read this thread, I am still not completely sure if I can fully use the Toppings MQA capabilites when using the Node:s output. All you will be missing is the mysterious "second MQA unfold" which is a filtered upsample as far as I can tell. I get that maybe you pay a premium for the size of the Dragonfly and the Topping E50 is more of a dedicated device. The Topping DAC delivered results that sounded comparable to the player's own DAC using the unbalanced RCA outputs.
