Honestly, anything Lauren Shippen writes at this point I’m going to buy without a second thought. I devoured The Bright Sessions with such a hunger that I didn’t think I had when it came to consuming content. But, I did. I raked through it with such a voracity that I could tell you every detail about most of the characters.

Joan Bright's brother whom Damien removed from the AM premises as part of Joan and Sam's plan, only to kidnap him and keep him captured and uninformed of his sister's and Sam's involvement. Damien's reason for the kidnapping was his desire to find someone with the same ability as himself. Although Mark's feeling towards him are undetermined, it has been confirmed that Damien has more than platonic feelings for him. [5] Samantha Barnes [ ] I think the characters in this book is quite diverse, there is Indonesian character, a bipoc i think, and people from various orientation from gay, lesbian, to bisexual. They are all cool and quite memorable, especially Neon. They're also have strong characterization and each of them get their spot in the story equally. They are also full of flaws and very humane. There's a moslem representative in here that's also lesbian, has tattoos, and an Indonesian. I think for some people, the part about her religion is unnerving, though I myself don't mind it. Yes moslem women who're also lesbian exist, even in my country and I know some of them. Yes, people can practice religion differently, regarding what they believe. Well…,” she begins, smiling. She smiles so easily. I’m so envious of that. The vodka turns in my stomach and suddenly the last thing I want is to watch her smile around another adorable quip. I wish she would stop smiling, rubbing her happiness in my face. Why go to so many places?” She leans forward on the bar, her duties as bartender largely over now that the only other person left in the place is the old woman in the corner booth. “Is it for work? What do you do?”This is how a villain is born !!! El personaje de Damien me frustra y encanta simultáneamente y conocer su pasado???? Beautiful, gracias Lauren por eso.

When we start out, we see that Rob is basically a bad person - or, at least, a very selfish one with a heavily damaged moral compass. Who or what is to blame is up to discussion, but that doesn't change the facts. He is a crappy person. With the fact that this book is character-driven for the most part, you'd expect something of a redemption arc, right? I definitely did. And you guessed, right, there was no redemption arc. Sure, there was development - but the place we ended up at is basically the same as when we started.

Review

Thank you to MacMillan Audio for an ALC of this in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Sorry, I—” She shakes her head like she’s clearing cobwebs from her hair. “I must have lost my train of thought.” I’ve spent a lot of time here on Fantasy Literature and elsewhere talking about how I am a character-driven reader first, everything else second. So maybe, maybe this kind of plot-lite book that centres on one guy’s decent into villainy would work for me. And maybe it would, but not this time. The main character is almost interesting. He gets so, so close but ultimately the author just completely fumbled the landing for me.

A Neon Darkness is the second novel in the TBS-universe. It centers around a 19 year old Robert Gorham as, after being abandoned by his parents, he finds himself travelling to LA. While there he meets a group of people who call themselves the unusuals. The novel follows him as he tries to befriend these people, who give him the moniker "Damien."The power of night bestows many types of photography with hints of mischief, magic, and possibility… I’m not solely responsible. I can’t be. Because if I am — if I actually took ownership over the things I’ve done — I’m not sure I could live with the person I am. But I have to live with him. So, it has to be everybody else’s fault.” E-ARC provided by the publisher (Tor Teen) through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All quotations are not final. Thank you so much! If you are not familiar with Shippen’s work, pull up a chair. She created and wrote the popular audio drama The Bright Sessions, which had four seasons from 2015 to 2018. The podcast was carried on in The AM Archives, which she executive produced, and soon The College Tapes following Caleb and Adam. She co-produced the award-winning Passenger List and wrote the audio adaptation of the popular comic MARVELS. In 2019, she released her first YA novel, The Infinite Noise, and has a third book on the horizon, which will focus on a dream walker named Rose. Shippen is certainly busy! He's lonely, hurt and his past and power burden him, leaving him lost and unable to connect to anyone, his power both a blessing and a curse. His desire to belong and be part of something is absolutely understandable and he's a grey character.
