Description

These two gentlemen could not be any more accommodating if they tried, quality service that is a rare find in today’s crazy world, I can not recommend this company enough! It looks minimalist (it weighs only 72g, or 64g for the Road version), but by harnessing the principal of ‘tangential coverage’, the level of rear-end protection is impressive.

Compare those as 3x as heavy as the two sizes of regular Ass Savers 19/26g, which offer less protection. The Win Wing is made up of four easy to assemble components (Image credit: James Watkins) Design and Aesthetics

First test of the Ass Savers Win Wing 2

The straps seem amply strong though, so it’s probably safe to pull it one hole (or even two) tighter than you initially thought was enough. I go until the hole is visibly elongated when hooked. As described in our original Win Wing review, there are a few key steps that must be taken to ensure optimal performance when installing the Ass Savers Win Wing 2. PLACE. The next step to install the Win Wing is to attach the wishbone frame as close as possible to the rear tire. I found that loosely fitting the frame around the seat stays, adjusting its position about 5mm above the tread, then tightening the straps, was a foolproof method for a proper fit.

The Win Wing Road fits practically any skinny tire bike, protecting the rider in even the worst conditions. Ideal for winter training or if you want to add some comfort to your puristic urban ride. The Win Wing won't rattle or jam, and at less than 75g , you won't even notice it's there. The key to understanding how the Win Wing works lies in physics: water and mud leave the wheel in a straight line from the tangential point of release. By shielding only the upper rear quarter of the wheel, the Win Wing eliminates spray from reaching the critical areas of the rider with a minimum of material. With all of that said, it’s already hard to fault the original Ass Savers fender if you accept its limitations – literally just a simple ( and pretty well-designed) piece of folded plastic clipped to your saddle rails… and often copied. A regular Ass Saver doesn’t offer a ton of coverage either, but was/is a ‘better-than-nothing’ approach to at least keeping your butt from getting muddy and soaked on wet or sloppy rides.

Brand

While mountain bikers are used to mud, gravel bikers face a different challenge. Anyone who has ridden on a wet gravel road is familiar with the mixture of fine sand and water that seems to be designed especially to seek and destroy bearings, not to mention what it does to your eyes on a long ride. The Win Wings were remarkable. Quiet. Free of movement. Unobtrusive. And most importantly, effective."
