From the first piano bars to John’s emotive vocals and Taupin’s poignant lyrics, to the backing band’s extraordinary playing, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is a quintessential timeless ballad.

The Ballad Of Danny Bailey (1909-1934) is a solid album-only tune and while it continues the narrative style commonly associated with John’s recordings, with some exceptional musical compositions and elements, it is unlikely to be anyone’s favourite tune. mixes from Greg Penny, along with the same stereo remastering delivered via Apple Music, but I can’t listen to it everywhere and anywhere, hence the stream is more than adequate for the needs of this modern listener. My only criticism is that I feel the song is too long and an increase in tempo would have likely addressed that issue. Track A1 'Funeral For A Friend / Love Lies Bleeding' each has separate credits though is on one track.Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock 'N Roll) is a brief and upbeat track that adds a touch of rockabilly to the album's sonic palette; it’s a fun little tune! I'm lucky enough to have the Speakers Corner version, and this is simply astounding, and the relevant drama is completely intact right from the start. The 30th anniversary edition followed the original format, splitting the album across two discs to allow the inclusion of the bonus tracks, while a DVD on the making of the album was also included. It was, however, used as the B-side of the American release of the "Bennie and the Jets" single, and was popular on FM playlists of the day, especially WBZ-FM in Boston, whose top 40 chart allowed for the inclusion of LP cuts and B-sides as voted for by listeners. Bennie And The Jets is a funk-infused glam rock track with a catchy chorus, but I’ve never appreciated the faux concert element as I feel it is extraneous to the song.

Grey Seal", previously the B-side of the 1970 single " Rock and Roll Madonna," was re-recorded for the album. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases. Admittedly, this opening tune could be considered as two unique songs but the combining of them, into an epic 11-minute medley, was the work of pure genius as the song seamlessly transitions from a sombre piano-led funeral dirge into a vibrant rock anthem. This is the best pressing that I own of GYBR, even though I own the Speakers Corner version, which is also very very good, but this 1978 reissue is superb and can probably only be surpassed by a first pressing (as is usually the case).

The original 1973 LP, when released on CD, was released on two discs, while the 1992 and 1995 CD remasters put the album on one disc as it was slightly less than 80 minutes. While a version of "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" was recorded in Jamaica, that recording was discarded; the released version of the song came from the sessions at the Château. Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" was inspired by memories of a Market Rasen pub Taupin frequented when younger.Among the 17 tracks, the album contains the hits " Candle in the Wind," US number-one single " Bennie and the Jets," " Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and " Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" plus live favourite " Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003, [6] and continues to be highly regarded in various rankings. In 2003 and 2012, the album was ranked number 91 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, [22] and re-ranked number 112 in a 2020 revised list.
