Pitchfork also holds the seminal album in high standing, saying The Chronic lives on as a “timeless show of strength” and “gave shape to L.

The album’s cover was created in the style of the artwork for Zig-Zag rolling papers and the term “chronic” is used for high-grade marijuana. Dre celebrates the 30th anniversary of his magnum opus, The Chronic by announcing the album will be re-released by its original distributor, Interscope Records which worked The Chronic in 1992 via its relationship with Death Row Records.

Dre commanded the stage – just a few miles from his birthplace of Compton – with a groundbreaking setlist anchored by hits such as "The Next Episode" and the 2Pac-led "California Love. This reissue can be identified by the different catalog number, the arrangement of the logos printed on the labels and by the UPC barcode number printed on the back cover of the jacket. They should've pressed it as a clear disc with the potleaf design they used on the backcover embedded in the vinyl, that would've been sick. It's ok for a spin for time to time, but as one of the best produced rap albums of all time, it deserves better.

Sadly this one and the reissue of Doggy Style from the same year (green shell) just sound like trash. Polly lined inner sleeves and as far as the sound quality goes mine does not have a single pop or tick throughout and it thumps through my system. I feel that people who say this started G-Funk didn't listen to Niggaz4Life by NWA, which had a lot of the beginings of this production style by Dre.Last June, Rolling Stone placed The Chronic on its 500 Greatest Albums of All-Time List, boasting how the album “redefined the West Coast Hip Hop sound. The Chronic is an undisputed landmark recording that built upon the groundbreaking aesthetics of his legendary Compton group, N.

I jumped back into the cassette thing and bought myself a good player and a bunch of tapes - both old and newly made. He once again changed the game with The Chronic as he helped popularize the G-Funk sound inspired by the P-Funk sounds of George Clinton and his Parliament-Funkadelic crew. Interscope Records, founded in 1990, subverted the musical landscape by introducing culture shaping artists across the full spectrum of contemporary music.Dre samples a Leon Haywood song released in 1975: "I Want'a Do Something Freaky To You" from the album "Come And Get Yourself Some" on 20th Century Records. It must be said that plenty of the misogynist lyrics have not at all aged well but the music itself remains fresh and full of story telling lyrics as well as iconic samples. It now turns a hard-to-believe 30 years old so gets this special anniversary reissue on Interscope across four sides of vinyl.
