Description

The GI of CORN THINS corn cakes are likely to be high. Foods with high GI values raise blood glucose levels more than those with low or medium values. They are useful for dietary variety and for replenishing muscle fuel stores after exercise. To lower dietary Glycaemic Index simply combine high GI food that you would normally eat (eg corn or rice cakes, potatoes, or white rice) with lower GI foods (e.g. foods generally higher in fats and protein, such as meat, avocado, or cheese) at each meal. Each CORN THINS slice is only about 6g, so the amount of carbohydrate per slice is low (less than 5g per slice), which means the Glycaemic Load is not high when only eating a few slices. Corn flakes can be low FODMAP but this depends on the serve size and the brand. If you enjoy corn flakes I generally recommend having certified low FODMAP corn flakes. This is because the low FODMAP serve size is bigger (1.5 cups or 42 grams per meal). On the other hand, non-certified low FODMAP cornflakes are only low FODMAP at 1/2 cup (15 grams) per meal. Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Kellogg’s Gluten Free Corn Flakes are both certified low FODMAP corn flakes. Corn syrup has not been tested yet but most experts believe that it is low in FODMAPs. This is because corn syrup contains mostly glucose, a non-FODMAP sugar. 1 If you see ‘corn syrup’ listed in the ingredients know that it is fine to consume if you are following a low FODMAP diet. Corn flour and corn starch are two different names for the same thing. And they are also low FODMAP so any amount can be eaten if you are following the low FODMAP diet. Corn syrup

Real Foods do not use any nuts in the manufacture of our products. However, we do manufacture a CORN THINS variant called "Organic Sesame". Sesame is classified as an allergen, which many nut intolerant individuals are able to consume. Our CORN THINS Organic Sesame variant contains 2% sesame seeds. Real Foods have implemented a strict manufacturing and clean down regime, which is implemented each time the CORN THINS Organic Sesame are made. Production staff are not permitted to commence manufacturing new product until the clean down program has been completed, inspected and verified by the Quality Department as satisfactory. Despite this, Real Foods recommends that people with life threatening allergic reactions to sesame not consume any Real Foods products. One study found that the prevalence of diabetes was 20% higher in countries with easier access to high-fructose corn syrup, compared to areas where the syrup was not readily available ( 17). Bottom line: Corn syrup is low FODMAP. High fructose corn syrup is high in FODMAPs as it contains fructose so it should be avoided if you are in the elimination phase or are sensitive to fructose. Bottom line: Corn thins have a high FODMAP content. Remember the low FODMAP serve size and use plain corn thins, especially if you are in the elimination phase. Corn tortillas One study in 365 adults found that those who had the highest intake of carotenoids — especially lutein and zeaxanthin — had a 43% lower chance of developing AMD compared to those with the lowest intake ( 11). An absolute classic Australian staple is smashed avo toast, right? So why not pop it on a corn thin? Corn contains antioxidants and plant compounds that may provide a number of health benefits. Lutein and Zeaxanthin Content May Benefit Eye HealthBottom line: Canned creamed corn is fairly low in FODMAPs and a low FODMAP serve is 1/4 cup (60g). If you are in the elimination phase or are sensitive to fructans take care when eating larger portions of canned creamed corn. Is canned baby corn low FODMAP? On the other hand, processed corn products may not be very nutritious, as refined oil, syrup and chips lose beneficial fiber and other nutrients during production. Also, many processed products are high in added salt, sugar or fat ( 7, 8). Summary All our Regular CORN THINS Regular variants are Kosher (Parev). Our Flavoured CORN THINS flavoured variants (Sour Cream & Chives, Pizza, and Tasty Cheese) have milk solids in the flavouring component, which are not Kosher Approved. To ensure there is no cross contamination between our Flavoured products and Regular Kosher Parev products, Real Foods have implemented a specific process in conjunction with Kashrut NSW, including a clean down regime, which is implemented each time the Flavoured CORN THINS variants are made. Production staff are not permitted to start production until a kosher supervisor has approved (koshered) the line to produce kosher products. This is verified by regular supervision inspections by Kashrut NSW. Our kosher products are identified by the KA logo.
