Sammo Hung has always been a terrific director, proving here again why he’s one of the greatest living action directors in history. The final fight in the chemical factory may be one of the most beautifully choreographed action scenes in the genre’s history. The stunt performers and stars risk their lives to bring it all to life. It’s not even worth describing; it has to be seen to be believed. The camera angles are always placed in a way so that you can see who is doing what, which makes it even more exciting. This is a legendary set for a legendary film, and I couldn’t be happier that this set now exists for fans all over the world to experience one of the greatest action films ever committed to celluloid. This appears to be Director and Co-Star Hung’s touch as there is the sort of feel that Millionaires Expresshas to its comedic stylings than say Chan’s more physical comedy ala Meals on Wheels. The result is a film that works as well as a romance as it does as an action vehicle without the sort of danger and peril faced by Chan in his normal comedic entire.

I know you’ve hated other movies before, but this is flat out contempt!… The addition of high dynamic range added a pleasing visual element that enriched both natural and artificial light. I also felt that the sun splashed sequences benefited from the application of HDR which emboldened their depth. In addition to the increase in resolution, this made the differences between the 1080p video and this rendering standout.

(3 min) I was in awe when they showed clips from his Hong Kong films where Chan was not just partaking in these breathtaking fight sequences but putting his life on the line while performing his own insane stunts. I had never seen anything like it, and those films remain exemplary examples of why he’s one-of-a-kind. They were, at the time, almost impossible to find, so I found myself making friends on Prodigy bulletin boards and deep diving into VHS tape trading, where I would eventually get to see these films, all brilliant. Over the years, I’ve been able to get them as Chan became more widely known in the U.S. on proper releases. As an enthusiast I appreciate a well-crafted sound mix that draws me into the onscreen elements, regardless of where the sounds are emanating from. This Atmos mix is fair, occasionally broadening the soundstage and incorporating occasional point by point cues. It had potential but, I couldn’t help but feel let down by it. Music Video (Cantonese): A three-minute video is provided here in Cantonese. This has better audio quality than the English version. Interviews begin with stuntman Chin Kar-Lok, the move on to writer Szeti Cheuk-Hon, actor Benny Urquidez, professor David Desser, Mike Leeder, and stuntmen Joe Eigo, Andy Chang, Jude Poyer, and Billy Chow (all individually). I am leaning towards the Japanese version as it seems to have more scenes that what feature in the HK and the English version (as the English version has extra scenes also but it cuts some stuff from the HK version, whereas the JPN version has them all I think). However the HK version would be the theatrical "original" experience.
