Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Aging is another factor that matters when determining the prices of these premium bottles. Bourbon requires the use of toasted or freshly charred oak barrels for aging. Nose: The nose starts off soft and inviting , with fresh floral notes then leading to candy corn and wood oil. As the nose unfolds, the nose gets darker and richer, with more oak, caramel, red apple, peanut shells, and a slight sawdust quality. Right before the sip comes a wave of buttered popcorn. Overall, the nose impressed me more than I was expecting. We are excited to add such an iconic brand to the Barton 1792 Distillery,” said Adam Wilkins, brand manager, Sazerac Company. “The strong American whiskey lineage of Early Times will be a valuable inclusion to our existing whiskey portfolio.”

On the palate, the whiskey has surprising weight. The flavor balances corn sweetness, dry oak and rye spice, and caramel and vanilla surprisingly well. That said, the whiskey is rather flat, despite having all the core elements, and is tinged with a bit of a mineral spirits bite.

This alcoholic beverage has only been in existence since 2011. But it is a high-quality straight bourbon, albeit unrecognized. No one knows why its producers prefer to allow it to fly under the radar. The level of char goes a long way in determining the type of flavors it portrays at the end of the aging process. Most premium bourbons exhibit varying notes and aromas of caramel, oak or vanilla.

The MGP provides whiskey for several dozens of different brands. Smooth Ambler Contradiction comes at 46 percent alcohol by volume. This bourbon is a perfect demonstration that shows how a young product can be enhanced with an older, more refined whiskey. This is the definition of a MOTR whiskey, a true 2.5 if there ever was one. It’s approachable, it’s easy, and it has a decent whiskey aroma and flavor to it. The used cooperage seems to work to allow the oak to shine through without dominating. It’s what the kids call “smooth juice”. At the time Sazerac Company President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Brown said, “We are delighted to acquire such iconic brands as well as the Canadian Mist Distillery. Brown-Forman has done an excellent job building these brands over the years and we expect to invest in the brands and grow their sales in the coming years.” 2021: Sazerac Announces Early Times to be Made at Barton 1792 Distillery Created by blending Straight Bourbon (new charred oak) and “whiskey distilled from a bourbon mash” (used cooperage), this is a unique whiskey. Yeah, double casks are everywhere these days, but this is a true blending of new and used cooperage distillate which puts it in a realm of its own. But don’t let that scare you away from trying this bourbon by no means. It has fantastic taste qualities beyond the good burn it displays at the first sip. After you get past that sip you could be drawn to the nice soft caramel taste along with maybe even a hint of cinnamon. It is true that pricey premium spirits are entirely made of natural ingredients and undergo painstaking distilling and aging processes. However, you mustn’t confuse some factors with premium quality. Some premium drinks may even be virtually tasteless, yet cost an arm and a leg. It is all about perception and marketing.Woodford Reserve: Approachable, easy to drink, some distinct notes. Woodford Reserve Bourbon is not quite bottom of the bottom shelf in price, but good value and a generic label you can find most places. Old Forester Bourbon: Another great value if you can find it. Not the cheapest, but generally not too expensive either. One side-effect of the Brown-Forman vs. Diageo clash in Tennessee was the focus it brought to super cheap whiskey brand Early Times. Diageo’s whiskey law proposal included a provision that would have allowed it to make used barrel whiskey and call it “Tennessee whiskey,” and the only product of note on the market that bears a resemblance is the Brown-Forman-made Early Times. I pour ET from the repurposed cool looking ” Pluto Water ” Woodford Bottle over Ice, add ’bout 5 dashes of Bitters, a few drops of Maraschino Cherry Syrup, and top off with a splash of water . . .

The product became marketed to customers that were price sensitive as well as customers who used whiskey as their spirit for mixed drinks; especially juleps. During this time, bourbon sales had plummeted, and the category of premium bourbon had been overtaken by such brands as Old Fitzgerald, Heaven Hill, Old Forester, and Pappy Van Winkle. Old Crow bourbon was said to be the favored spirit of legends like Hunter S. Thompson and Mark Twain among many others. This bourbon is produced from the same distillery that churns out Jim Beam products. Changes, such as the sale of a brand, create concern in Bourbon fans. The questions about such changes linger quite awhile before any answers arrive. Earlier this month, we finally received a few answer from Sazerac about their plans for Early Times. The whisky and the bottled-in-bond expression would both continue on under the new ownership. Early Times’ new home will be the Barton 1792 Distillery and production using the same mash bill (79% corn / 11% rye / 10% barley) will begin this summer. The survival of the bottled-in-bond Early Times following the sale was very good news, indeed. The Bad One of the most offensive words in our world today is “beginner” or “newbie.” And no one wants to be called a beginner, at least not when it has to do with drinking bourbon. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform.
