BBC Radio 1 Live in Concert (1991) (recorded for the BBC at The Paris Theatre 1972 and The Hippodrome 1973) Entertainment | Belle named 'best Scottish band' ". BBC News. 12 January 2005 . Retrieved 6 August 2014. Sylvan from Londonhttp://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/delilah-songwriter-sylvan-whittingham-written-10092906 R.I.P. Mr. Sullivan (1901 - 1974) and Mr. Jones, born Thomas Jones Woodward, will celebrate his 74th birthday in two months on June 7th.

Barry from Sauquoit, NyTom Jones' "Delilah" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart on March 10th, 1968 at position #97; two weeks earlier on February 25th another record entered the Top 100 that also had 'Delilah' in it's title... The SAHB, as they were better known, recorded eight albums in five years and were regarded as one of the biggest-grossing live bands in Europe. They participated in major tours supporting the likes of Jethro Tull, Slade, and supporting bands such as The Who and Frank Zappa. By 1975 they were selling out iconic venues such as The Apollos and their shows there became famous thanks to their Christmas Shows which were never filmed. Also in 1975 they released a live album containing the song Delilah. a b c d e f g Colin Larkin, ed. (1997). The Virgin Encyclopedia of Popular Music (Conciseed.). Virgin Books. p.1070. ISBN 1-85227-745-9. Mason said that her name was Delia, which was impossible to integrate into a song ("Why, why, why Delia" didn't work). A decade later, working with Reed, he got the idea to change her name to Delilah, and they wrote the famous song. "I just got more and more worked up with each line," he said. "I put my heart and soul into that song - and that's how 'Delilah' was born."Thomas Leonard from Pittsburgh, Pa, PaJones recalled in interviews in the 90s that when he debuted the song on US television on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1968 he was asked to change a line in the second verse "At break of day as that man went away I was waiting" because it indicated that the "man" Jones' character had seen in the windows with his girlfriend Delilah had stayed over night with her, something taboo for the conservative Sullivan Show producers. Jones remarked in interviews that he questioned why the producers were upset about a random lyric indicating the Delilah character's partner in infidelity had stayed over night when the entire song is about infidelity, stalking, and murder but to no avail so he changed the lyric to get the much needed TV exposure. Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn April 21st 1968, Tom Jones performed "Delilah" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...

Since the demise of the band in October 2019, Zal and Willie worked together on a new project 'Orphans Of The Ash' and have released a studio album in November 2022 titled Ellipsis. Plans are currently in place for Orphans Of The Ash to begin working on their second album which is yet to be titled. The album 'Ellipsis' by Orphans of the Ash, Zal's collaboration with Billy McGonagle from /sin'dogs/, was released on 29 November 2022. [3] ROOL [ edit ] Twelve months later, SAHB returned to Reading as headliners. Most of 1974 was spent trying to break the US where, Cleminson says, they “had a problem – some bands wouldn’t like to follow us”. Harvey’s covers can be hit and miss and here we get several which attempt to be more faithful to the originals than some — we have a hit with a great Willie the Pimp where the band perfectly imitate Beefheart’s Magic Band and a miss with the ponderous He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother — a ballad which just doesn’t suit Harvey’s vocal. Alex’s brother plays excellent slide guitar throughout the album and extra poignancy was added to this cover with his premature death later the same year.

Neil Walsh from London Nw2cannot believe that a song about a man knifing his girlfriend to death has become such a hit. The melody had already been put down in entirety by Les Reed, who had also had the idea for the theme of the song, and a chorus that had two lines of 'Iy Yi Yi, Delilah.' Les had suggested that the song be based on the story of a modern Samson and Delilah, and Barry and I set to work. Cleminson decided to move to Cyprus with partner Rachel, and during his time there he suffered from depression and anxiety, so he bought a cheap acoustic guitar to use as a form of therapy and soon developed ideas for what would initially be Zal's first solo album. Around 2016, Zal was collaborating with Alan Mair on a project called Electric Brae and some of his initial ideas were used for that but he disliked how some of the songs sounded and decided to go in another direction. Thomas Leonard from Pittsburgh, Pa, PaThe single remains one of only a handful of Jones hits that is never taken out of his constantly evolving live concerts sets each year due to it's popularity and identification with him. Jones performed the song at 2011's "Concert For The Queen" in Wembley Stadium, which was broadcast as TV Special in the US (several other performers including Elton John appeared) Alex Harvey: Last of the Teenage Idols". Charles Augustus Lundquist from Syracuse, New YorkI thought when I first heard this Delilah song sung by Tom Jones that the singer used the knife to commit suicide on himself because he couldn't bear the thought of the love of his life deceiving and leaving him. I guess that it can be interpreted both ways when you really think about it. A live album was the logical next step. “We never really produced the live thing 100 per cent on record, though we came pretty close,” Cleminson argues. Munro, John Neil (2011). The Sensational Alex Harvey. Birlinn. ISBN 9780857901521 . Retrieved 11 March 2023. I’m an entertainer – what else am I going to do?” he inquired. In March 1978 the New Alex Harvey Band announced a triumphant appearance at the London Palladium. It was billed as the long-awaited moment the Vibrania Suite would be performed – a concept Harvey had been working on for years, based in a world where everyone is pardoned for their first two crimes, but executed for their third, regardless of its severity. But what was left of the management company took out an injunction against Harvey playing new material. I think we’d have got on a lot better if we’d both cleaned up our act. By the end we’d stopped talking completely. I couldn’t do it without a drink by then. A guy from a record company showed up one night, and I think Alex felt if I’d said I was into working with him again, we’d have been offered a deal. But I wasn’t paying attention.”AllMusic. "The Sensational Alex Harvey Band Biography". AllMusic. {{ cite web}}: |author= has generic name ( help) The production of the album Framed took place in 1972. The album was produced by the band’s mentor and frontman, Alex Harvey, in collaboration with Phil Wainman, who was known for his work with The Sweet and Bay City Rollers. The Boston Tea Party" was released in June 1976 and the song "Anthem" was a top 30 hit in Australia in 1975. Zal also toured with Bonnie Tyler on several tours and performed live on some of her biggest hits such as Holding Out For A Hero and It's A Heartbreak. Cleminson is referenced in the novel The Sacred Art of Stealing, by the Scottish author Christopher Brookmyre, as the basis of the disguises worn by bank robbers during a heist, and inspired the name of the character Zal Innez.
