Personally, if I was starting a new army, I’d get two and stop there. For a Combat Patrol it’s a pretty strong box — it’s got a bunch of more “generic” options that can really fit into any army. Alternatively you can buy a couple and go hard into the Windrider builds. Enter Roboute Guilliman – the ideal nemesis for a Bloodthirster who loves fighting Primarchs and an alien species that took a bite out of Macragge. Accompanied by the forces of the Indomitus Crusade, the Lord Commander cleared Baal of Tyranids… for now. There’s a rich vein of fiction to explain the Aeldari in more detail. Gav Thorpe’s landmark omnibus, Path of the Eldar , covers many aspects of the Aeldari, while Ghost Warrior explores the newly formed Ynnari faction, and The Masque of Vyle focuses on the Harlequins. Yesterday, we unveiled the new Tyranid codex, as well as the Combat Patrol that’s coming out alongside it. But just who are these extra-galactic (and extra-hungry) space bugs, and why do they love eating Space Marines so much?

Unlike in 2k games where you can afford some units in your list that are only there to screen or only there to score secondaries, in 500 point play every unit in your list needs to be able to reliably perform at least two of the following jobs: objective control, secondary scoring, target elimination, screening, trading up, buffing or debuffing key units. With the advent of 9th Edition, at long last the “Start Collecting” range phaseout began with the Combat Patrol line taking its place. These were a little pricier, but again the discount was variable. Enter the Drukhari Another equally effective might be a unit of Rangers with a Shard Net using “Advanced Positions” to deploy behind an obscuring terrain piece while screening the midfield. Your Rangers can halt the enemy melee advance, giving you a turn to blast the interlopers or counter punch them with your own melee heavy hitters, like Banshees or Shining Spears. Warp Spiders also make a superior screening unit because of their ability to move 6” away from an enemy who declares a charge.Importantly, including a band of Harlequins in a Travelling Players Detachment will not prevent you from using Battle-forged rules, such as Power From Pain for Drukhari , special secondary objectives, or the new army-wide Asuryani special rules.** The Drukhari Combat Patrol box is an excellent start for a list including Kabalites. 10 Kabalite Trueborn in a Raider is an incredibly potent threat, and Incubi are one of the real stars of the new Codex. Between them, you’ve got a pair of units that can credibly threaten to take out just about anything you’d want to point them at at low points levels and that still provide a ton of value. The Archon is a solid HQ choice, if a little uninteresting, and the Ravager is fine, even if it likely won’t make the cut once you start building for more competitive games. For most purposes, though, the extra wound together with Dark Lances going to D3+3 damage will make it good enough to field while you’re still building. As your collection grows, keep an eye out for room to bring Drazhar – he’s really good right now, and makes Incubi even better than they already are. Wych Cults Earlier today, we unveiled the incredible new Tyranids codex – but you can’t devour an entire galaxy without some hungry mouths to feed. Fortunately, the Norn-Queens have been hard at work splicing together a new Combat Patrol box, which is ideal whether you’re brand new to the Tyranids or have been on board since Hive Fleet Behemoth was first sighted.* Few special characters– You only get three, and only one of them is really great – Drazhar, the Master of Blades, is a an absolute combat monster and possibly the best point-for-point combat character in the game. He’s also faction-neutral, which can be advantageous with list-building.

The point is that in some cases you will be better off letting your opponent have the objectives early and figure you can do most of your own primary objective scoring after you have largely tabled the opposing force. A few forward-thinking groups of Aeldari managed to avoid the Fall, building vast spaceships called Craftworlds and escaping their increasingly debased kin. Known as the Asuryani, these refugees have lived a precarious existence in the millennia since the coming of Slaanesh, preserving a more austere way of life and guarding against another calamity. Best Secondary Options: Behind Enemy lines, Raise Banners, Warp Ritual, Grind Them Down, Hidden Path The Angels Excelsis Chapter fell to the last man in Baal’s defence, the excommunicated Knights of Blood returned to lend a hand, and a whopping five Chapter Masters gave their lives to fight the Tyranid bio-horrors. Even with the Sanguinor getting involved, it looked like it could be the end for the Blood Angels – only a miracle could save them. For new players or players looking to start an entire Aeldari army this box is a Repeat for sure. Mainly if you want to run a Saim-Hann list, but also just because you’ll get a fantastic core to a collection. You’ll find use for just about everything in the box. The only “issue” is that after 12 jetbikes, you’re kind of leaning hard into playing Saim-Hann.
