Description

If I were making a drawing in which it was important for the initial lines to disappear completely, I would choose one of the Verithins for being a good balance between paleness and visibility – at least to this artist. The Col-Erase is easily the palest, but I can barely see it! If I don’t mind the lines showing, I would choose the Staedtler or the Caran d’Ache, since they are easier to see (and I generally prefer using a softer pencil). In today’s guide we are going to review all the best erasable colored pencils that exist in the market. Also, there seems to be a color matching problem, at least with some of the colors. Here is a picture of patches of Scarlet Lake and Tuscan Red. The way they look, I would call them Vermillion and Mauve.

Col-Erase REVIEW】 Sketching in COLOR? A MUST TRY! 【Prismacolor Col-Erase REVIEW】

The color palette is very basic, which is what you would expect from a set containing only 24 colors, so the next big question would be how they perform? Perhaps their performance can help one over look the small palette, allowing for a reasonable blending experience, bearing in mind however that we are dealing with colored pencils here and not watercolor, there is only so much you can do with regards to blending. Col-Erase Performance However, the hard lead of these pencils contributes to better point retention, allowing for longer use before needing to resharpen. There’s a workaround. We had this exact issue in a UK studio where I spent almost a decade pencil drawing the same character! 😱😁 We found if you change the way you use ordinary pencils, you can achieve the same results. The boss was adamant only Prisma’s would do, could it spell the end of the franchise?! Then one of us just started using ordinary pencils without telling him. It was almost six months before he found out 😂 In a business where every detail was examined under a magnifying glass this was just the revelation required to move the company forward. Using pencils to achieve the same look precisely is very hard on your hands though, in my experience. After almost two years of research in my spare time, I developed a digital equivalent to the Prismas. It’ll never feel the same as natural media work but at least it’s a solution, of sorts. Reply This sort of thing just makes me wonder how consolidated the colored pencil market is. As far as I’m aware, Prismacolor is THE colored pencil brand and thus can probably discontinue popular product lines without worrying about losing market share. ReplyPerhaps not necessarily a ‘bad’ thing, just one worth noting – especially if you want to draw out in the field. Bottom Line They may require more effort and pressure to fully erase the color, and some residue may be left behind on the paper.

Let me tell you about my favorite pencil… now that it’s almost too late for you to get one of your own. These colored pencils also sharpen well, but may require more effort compared to the Col-Erase pencils.

Prismacolor Col-Erase Pencils and Sets | BLICK Art Materials

The Irojiten line of colored pencils are some of the brightest and most vivid colored pencils on the market today – hence why the set you see pictured is called vivid (their other set is called tranquil – which features lighter colors). For Mother’s Day, I felt like honoring my mom’s memory by making a drawing based on a photo that was taken in the late 1930s around the time that she and my father were married. I made the initial drawing with the Staedtler and remembered to scan it before I got too far with the final coloring with Prismacolors. I didn’t erase at all – most lines disappeared under my final coloring. In the small areas where the Staedtler lines are still visible, I could easily erase them, but I don’t mind their presence. Non-photo blue pencils for under-drawings are now a permanent part of my sketch kit.Spent yesterday scouring my local art stores for every Indigo, Tuscan Red, and Green pencil I could find after reading this post…. I will be using them instead of graphite when I’m sketching or doing a small study, working out the details for the bigger project. Since they erase like graphite, why not use color instead? The Col-Erase pencils have a soft lead that is easy to blend and layer, providing smooth and vibrant colors on the paper. The erasable formula allows for precise and clean erasing without leaving any residue.

The thin lead of these pencils makes them suitable for fine details, allowing adult colorists to add intricate patterns and textures to their artwork. The minimal color selection is another reason not to use these for professional colored pencil artwork. With only 24 maximum, you really are limited.I absolutely love colerase for sketching in my sketchbook -looks so much nicer than the muddy look from graphite. Also since alcohol markers do smudge them, I use that to my advantage and will use a pink or purply color to draw a face then when I use a light layer of a pinky peach or super pale yellow marker it is instant shading, ( for other stuff too, like same concept, but w a blue or green colerase to draw a plant, and then a light green or yellow marker to fill in and smudge. ) Reply Not only did their crayons perform well, but they were made to be completely safe, washable, and non-toxic – making them the preferred choice for mom’s everywhere. I do like working in graphite, but I do prefer color. Now, I know I will enjoy sketching in my sketchbook so much more by using color.
