Description

A400 is available in multiple drive form factors and capacities from 120GB to 1.92TB to give you all the space you need for applications, videos, photos and other important documents. You can also replace your hard drive or a smaller SSD with a drive big enough to hold all your files. This SSD is designed for use in desktop and notebook computer workloads and is not intended for server environments. The copy benchmark resulted in some surprising numbers that exceed the capability of the SATA3 interface and may have been impacted by write caching on the system. I consider these results potentially anomalous. Details about the extent of our regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority are available from us on request.

Results from the User benchmark show better numbers, except for the 4K random write speed. So far, Kingston A400 nearly delivers what it promises, as peak results surpass Kingston’s claimed performance, reaching a Sequential Read Speed of 511 MB/s and 449 MB/s.Caution! The workarounds below will break RST RAID arrays and could lead to data loss. If your system has RST RAID arrays you should consider an alternate solution. The results from Anvil’s Storage Utilities confirms the drive to be a very average SATA SSD, although again, these tests only use a limited amount of the capacity, thus hiding the nasty behaviour of the SSD once it fills up.

We can estimate that a hard drive could extract an update at an average write speed of 50 MB/s and read speed of 200 MB/s. At this rate, a hard disk drive would take 1.5 minutes to extract 6 GB of files during the game update. As I thought it was potentially an anomaly, I repeated the test using an Orico USB UASP 3.0 enclosure on my new workstation (Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.8Ghz, 64GB 2800MHz RAM) and received virtually identical results for writing and marginally faster reading. It seems the read speed is definitely data dependent as uncovered with HDTune Pro. ConclusionThe Kingston A400 is a standard 2.5-inch SATA solid-state drive. It comes without a SATA cable, with no screws. By the looks of it, Kingston has indeed cut all corners to lower the price tag. Although the Kingston A400 comes in 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB capacities, we chose to talk about the 240GB model. We’ve done separate benchmark tests for the Kingston A400 SSD using Crystal Disk Mark and User Benchmarks. Here are the results: CrystalDiskMark Put the system to sleep (suspend to RAM) and wake it up. On most distributions the command to suspend is: # systemctl suspend

Kingston's A400 solid-state drive dramatically improves the responsiveness of your existing system with incredible boot, loading, and transfer times compared to mechanical hard drives. Powered by a latest-gen controller for read and write speeds up to 500MB/s and 450MB/s, this SSD is 10x faster than a traditional hard drive¹ for higher performance, ultra-responsive multi-tasking, and an overall faster system. A400 comes in 2.5” 7mm and M.2 form factors to fit in a wide array of systems. It is ideal for thin and light notebooks with limited space.faster than a HDD - With incredible read/write speeds the A400 SSD will not only increase performance but can also be used to breathe new life into older systems. Testing with CrystalDiskMark seems to show read performance a little slower than what SATA3 is capable of, although the random 4k access performance does not seem too bad. I suppose this may be because these benchmarks utilise only a small portion of the drive (1GB) which makes it easy for the drive to deliver better numbers as it might reside in a pSLC cache (assuming it has one). The other sides of the drive are elaborately “folded” together and the drive is a standard 7mm “thin” form factor. For use with 9.5mm enclosures, you will have to supply your own spacer. Performance Tests Standing – We recommend that you are standing at all times when working on the computer. Sitting on a chair can generate more electrostatic.

Initial tests showed the drive to have the expected SATA3-saturating read speeds averaging 516.5MB/s. Ideal for desktops and notebooks - A400 has a 7mm form factor to fit in a wider array of systems. It's ideal for slimmer notebooks and in systems with limited available space.
