bert33 on Zelensky ‘Feels Betrayed’ by Western Partners, Has gone ‘Mental’: “ He needs to go to moscow and surrender himself and what’s left of his army, its over, give it up.” Oct 31, 21:54 The author’s use of leaked material to try to show the ineffectiveness of American CI in preventing leaks is oddly effective. But there is much irony — and not a little hypocrisy —inherent in an author whose career rests so heavily upon leaking, damning a practice so injurious to American CI that he has done so much to encourage. As with his earlier books on the NSA, the author relies heavily upon leakers for the material that is contained in his book.

Spyfail : foreign spies, moles, saboteurs, and the collapse

The counterintelligence and economic espionage efforts emanating from the government of China," it says, "are a grave threat to the economic well-being and democratic values of the United States. Confronting this threat is the FBI's top counterintelligence priority." BOOK REVIEW:Spy Fail: Foreign Spies, Moles, Saboteurs, and the Collapse of America’s CounterintelligenceThe disclosure has prompted demands for the UK to toughen its stance on China’s spy network in the UK. Apparently, Smolenkov didn’t know or failed to report that in 2009 Putin had overseen a plan to persuade, then bribe Clinton to ensure her approval of the sale of General Motors’ Opel car works in Germany to Oleg Deripaska’s Russian Machines (GAZ) holding and Sberbank – and that after taking the money Clinton had reneged on the deal. That Putin distrusted and detested Clinton for at least seven years before the presidential campaign year the president made public at the time. This is missing, however, from the Smolenkov dossier and from the Bamford book. Ken McCallum, the director general of MI5, revealed in a rare speech in 2022 that the domestic intelligence agency had “more than doubled” its efforts against China in recent years and was “running seven times as many investigations” over “Chinese activity of concern” than in 2018. REVIEW — In his new book, Spy Fail, James Bamford posits that there has been a “collapse of American Counterintelligence”.The “extensive politicization and incompetence, under both (Presidents) Obama and Trump” of American counterintelligence (CI) has, he asserts, resulted in the country being “flooded with spies and covert operatives”.

Spyfail: Foreign Spies, Moles, Saboteurs, and the Collapse of

An Israeli army spokesman told reporters there would be discussions regarding intelligence “down the road”, but said the focus was on fighting at the moment. It took many many hours of testing because I had to play hundreds of missions manually to get the stats. A text based Incremental / Idler game about evolving a civilization from primordial ooze into a space faring empire. If you now look at the resultant screen it screams at you that the spy is killed but if you read the text, the mission was successful. It is not an easy read even for foreign policy aficionados. Its perspective doesn’t fit neatly into the received preconceptions of either major US political party, and it doesn’t have a happy ending.

But these three messages are red. Sometimes there's another one, with the same text as #1 but orange. What does that mean? Did the "red" spy refuse in #1 to rat you out, but if the message is orange, they killed the spy without even asking?

Spyfail by James Bamford | Hachette Book Group

The evidence against her had been faked, a CIA source told Bamford anonymously. “They [FBI] want to generate headlines. They don’t care if the information is credible or not… Bank robbers, kidnappers, fraud, embezzlement, they’re very good at it. But when it gets into the espionage realm, they’re rank amateurs. I feel sorry for Butina; she got caught up in this whole vortex.” This is no scoop; it isn’t newsworthy. At the same time, however, we should understand that, as CIA CI Chief James Angleton (or, more likely, one of his deputies citing his boss) said, “there are no friendly intelligence services. There are only the intelligence services of friendly nations”.All intelligence services are in business to collect privileged information and influence events to the benefit of the countries they serve. History is replete with examples of this involving even our closest allies.Still, Bamford has convinced the French publisher Hachette to print a news update of the Israeli takeover of the US government. This is an extremely hard book to review for me. I am not a close follower of the author James Bamford, so I can only speak to his veracity from my own sense of what goes on the intelligence world. If Bamford is to be believed in full, then we in the USA ought to be furious at the level of incompetence and the huge waste that goes along with it. I suppose at a minimum I ought to look into his other work and see if he is reliable.
