Acoustic Sounds bought a bunch of metal parts from Classic Records when they went out of business, though not the contractual right to press the records, which they had to acquire separately.

Really happy with this UHQR (number 7700) and surprised it is clearly better than both my Classic 33 and 45! Just sounds beautiful and alive! Well done Chad and Co.! Tingen, Paul (1999). The Davis band played a mixture of pop standards, blues, and bebop originals by composers such as Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Davis, and Tadd Dameron. As with all bebop-based jazz, Davis's groups improvised on the chord changes of a given song. [1] Davis was one of many jazz musicians growing dissatisfied with bebop, however, and saw its increasingly complex chord changes as hindering creativity. My answer is : hardly ever ! Why ? There is a lot of money to be earned on "better then ever "versions of it ! I already have more than a few pressings of Kind of Blue, accumulated since I bought my first copy 57 years ago, so I'm just not sure I need another. The real question is: has the music changed? I hope the answer is "no." It's music that's still interesting, important, and historic. And no matter which version I listen to it's the music that draws me in. Of course, it's great to hear a pressing that's sonically wonderful; it certainly enhances the experience. But I'm leaning to pass on this release and find LPs that feature music and performances that I don't know quite as well--or at all. Bill Evans wrote in the LP liner notes, "Miles conceived these settings only hours before the recording dates." [8] Evans continued with an introduction concerning the modes used in each composition on the album. " So What" consists of two modes: sixteen measures of the first, followed by eight measures of the second, and then eight again of the first. [8] " Freddie Freeloader" is a standard twelve-bar blues form. " Blue in Green" consists of a ten-measure cycle following a short four-measure introduction. [8] " All Blues" is a twelve-bar blues form in 6 Issued in "special limited edition" hand-numbered slip-top box, with two foam inserts. Printed in the U.S.A. This disc is amazing, even on my modest system. I've mostly listened to Kind of Blue on CD for many years. Playing this LP was like listening to it for the first time.

None of the musicians had played any of the tunes before heading into the first of two recording sessions in early spring of 1959. In fact Miles had written out the settings for most of them only a few hours before the session.

Kind of Blue is based entirely on modality, diverging from Davis's earlier hard bop style of jazz with its complex chord progression and improvisation. [6] The entire album was a series of modal sketches, with each performer given a set of scales that encompassed the parameters of their improvisation and style. [22] This recording style contrasted with the typical preparation of providing musicians with the complete score or, for improvisational jazz, providing the musicians with a chord progression or series of harmonies. [3]Modal jazz was not unique to this album. Davis himself had previously used the same method on his 1958 Milestones album, the '58 Sessions, and Porgy and Bess (1958), on which he used modal influences for collaborator Gil Evans's third stream compositions. [3] Modal composition, with its reliance on scales and modes, represented, as Davis called it, [3] "a return to melody". [22] In a 1958 interview with Nat Hentoff of The Jazz Review, Davis elaborated on this form of composition in contrast to the chord progression predominant in bebop, stating French album certifications – Miles Davis – Kind of Blue" (in French). And wow! There's so much life and air in this recording, the piano especially sounds beautiful in a way that I've never heard before.
