Description

The Moth Decoy is a long term solution which uses the same pheromone as the moth trap but instead of trapping and killing male clothes moths, it spreads pheromone around the male population using a special magic dust which stops the moths from mating. Okay, its not really magic dust, it’s a micronised natural wax powder with electrostatic properties but I think ‘magic dust’ has a better ring to it! Read a full description of the Moth Decoy Science.

The fact that these pests can't climb very well is the only thing that makes them easier to combat. As a result, you will see the damage on your wallpaper only above the skirting boards, but not along the tops of walls or near your picture frames unless you're leaning them against the wall. These closet moth traps can be hung in wardrobes / cabinets using the removable hanger or placed on shelves There are two main species of common clothes moths - the webbing clothes moth (Tineola bisselliella) and the case-making clothes moth (Tinea pellionella). See our Identification Guides to see which species you may have.

Storage jars are great for keeping foods fresher for longer,' says Sophie from Green Protect. 'However, a variety of insects and bugs such as weevil and flour moths can still find their way into them. One way to prevent this is to ensure that new products are not poured on top of old as this can cause insect pest infestation.'

The telltale signs that you have a food moth infestation in your kitchen are signs of larvae. Start by emptying the shelves to give them all a through clean with a damp cloth spritzed with an anti-bacterial spray. Our Traps attract the active adult male moths and will help break the breeding cycle. It is the beginning of moth season and it might be that the moths you are seeing are females but the males have not yet hatched. The Traps are active for 12 weeks after opening. The best clothes moth trap is designed to allow easy access for adult male moths and yet provides a darker ‘safe’ place for clothes moths, which hate light and being disturbed. Design is also important to customers - a discrete design with a flatter profile doesn’t advertise the presence of moths to guests and hangs more easily in the closet. The glue is important to ensure effective trapping. Lastly, and importantly, the best clothes moth trap has the most effective pheromone to attract the male moths - the cheap Chinese imitations absolutely fail on this critical aspect and that is why we have our pheromones specially engineered in Germany by scientists who really understand this deeply technical area (exclusive to MothPrevention). It's also why our moth traps are not cheap! But they work. Period. How long do clothes moths live? The different shapes and sizes mean you can hang them directly in the closet, place them in drawers or cabinets, or any indoor space that could use extra protection. It is important to remember that this product will not kill existing moths and is more useful as a preventative tool. After two months of testing, we did not find a single moth in sight, and we enjoyed the light cedar scent it left in our closets and drawers. The MothPrevention® Clothes Moth Trap pheromones are engineered in Germany and not available in any other clothes moth trap in the UK, We have had them tested against the leading US clothes moth trap brands and they significant outperform them - this is confirmed by customer review data.

If you think moths are already in your wardrobe, giving clothes a steam with a clothes steamer is a great way to make sure any eggs or larvae are killed. Customers also wonder why they have damage to clothes and / or carpets when they have been actively trapping clothes moths - this is usually explained by larvae that have hatched and not yet pupated eating the natural animal fibres. In time they will turn into adult moths as part of their natural lifecycle. We are so sorry to read about your moth problem, we know how frustrating and distressing this can be. Moths are especially attracted to stains, sweat and any general mess on clothes, so keeping them clean is paramount in the fight against moths which you can turbocharge with the right detergent and cleaning at the right temperature. It enables you to monitor the severity of the moth problem around your home as you can count the number of adult male moths that are caught over a period of time If you find you are not catching any or many moths, after a week, try re-positioning the wool moth traps - this often then gives results for many of our customers, and remember that the placement needs to be near likely food sources for clothes moth larvae (keratin in natural animal fibres, most commonly wool-based). Last year I noticed the moths around the house and I suddenly realized that they must have been in through the carpet. And then I looked through the clothes and there was moth damage everywhere. So we knew we had a really big problem. Initially, when I was looking for a solution to all of this, I looked online and I did speak to a couple of different companies and the advice that I was given was so ranging. But, generally people were saying that what I needed to do was so extreme that I had to get rid of all my carpets, that I needed to get rid of a lot of my clothing, you know, a lot of extreme measures. And it felt quite overwhelming, to be honest.

Silverfish are attracted to dark cupboards that you may use to store books that aren't being read, photograph albums, scrapbooks, cardboard, and other paper. It's a lovely location for silverfish since it's dark and humid, and there will be plenty of food for them. Clothes moths hate light and being disturbed - their ideal location is with a plentiful food source for their larvae to eat (keratin, being the protein in animal based fibres), darker locations like closets, drawers and under furniture, which are also good locations for them to remain free to go through their lifecycle stages. Other likely locations that avoid what clothes moths hate are attics and spare bedrooms that are rarely used. What is the best moth repellent? Our Traps attract the active adult male moths and will help break the breeding cycle. Depending on the stage in the moth life cycle It might be that the that the males have not yet hatched. The Traps are active for 12 weeks after opening. If you already have damage to clothes or carpets from clothes moths then clothes moth traps are likely only part of the solution - you may need a killer kit for moths and need to do some work to completely get rid of clothes moths in your closet or carpets. We recommend spraying this at the bottom of your wardrobe to allow it to rise up through your clothes and keep the doors closed for 24 hours,' says Julia the creator of the Total Wardrobe Care moth spray. 'Replenish every week or so.' The trigger for clothes moths to pupate, turn into adults and fly to new locations in search of new food sources to lay their eggs is warmer weather, and ideally a degree of humidity. However, given ideal rural food sources in nature, clothes moths are not solely an urban phenomenon. Clothes moth traps provide a first line of defence in avoiding a clothes moth infestation.
