Restoration continues to add to the Unmatched arsenal. Most recently they have released another four-character set, honoring famous characters created by British authors. Unmatched: Cobble and Fog brings four men out of the shadows and onto the table in an all-out battle for dominance. Expertly balanced by the development team at Restoration, Cobble and Fog blends seamlessly with existing releases, expanding the potential cast of Unmatched to 15 playable characters. Unmatched pits iconic characters against each other, each with their own fighting style with their unique strengths and weaknesses. You have a hand limit of seven cards. At the end of your turn, if you have more than seven cards in your hand, you must discard down to seven cards, placing any discarded cards in your discard pile. Then it is your opponent’s turn.

When your opponent’s hero is defeated, which happens when they are reduced to zero health, the game ends immediately and you win! I have to say, the variety in this box is fantastic. Before playing with any of these heroes, I wondered if they would feel like a re-skin of any other characters that already show up in Unmatched. Alice from Volume 1 has a big/small changing mechanic, and while Jekyll and Hyde has a similar mechanic, it feels so different. You have agency to transform at the beginning of a turn unlike Alice, yet the cards still force this change which is something you have to pay attention to. The double-sided board offers even more variety. In Soho, fighters go between buildings and on top of them, making for an interesting layout. Even more exciting is Baskerville Manor, with secret passageways that allow characters to “step” easily across the map. Final Thoughts

Cobble & Fog consists of 4 characters that are so well thought out and have incredible artwork to match. The Invisible Man zooms around the board using a set of 3 fog tokens while Dracula drains your health and collects cards if you stand too close to him. Having played all these heroes I have my favorites, but there isn’t a bad fighter in the set. Unmatched is an asymmetrical miniature duel game that allows you to fight fast and epic battles between fighters from all walks of life, from book heroes to virtual heroes, not to mention those of legendary myths. You can combine heroes from any box in Unmatched to allow varied and fascinating match-ups from across fiction and history.. Highs Dracula is joined by three sisters who do his bidding and help corner their opponent. This fighter gives you opportunities to heal and even gain cards when draining your opponent in an adjacent space. With each new release, I’m impressed by how the team at Restoration Games keeps the game fresh and each fighter unique.
