Description

This is the original form of the release, it has solid light blue prism LP picture labels with silver lettering, later forms have an empty prism. Though credited for the entire album, Barry St John, Doris Troy, Leslie Duncan, and Liza Strike perform backing vocals only on tracks A4, B2, B4, and B5. I have a second US press and (to my ears) it beats this pretty comfortably in terms of dynamic range, soundstage and overall volume. The early copies although near black have a slight blue tint which can be seen under a strong light and are sealed on the left side of the gatefold sleeve.

Better than the MFSL half speed i have (which i find over-rated), but to be honest the best sounding, to my ears, in my collection (i have multiple copies, DSOTM being a slight obsession) is an Australian quadrophonic pressing, strange as that may sound. And dropping the needle on its Money track as a finisher really affirms my belief that it is the best version for that song alone at least.

I have a beautiful copy of this pressing with all the extras, and i must say it does sound really great.

I grew up listening to this on CD in the mid-to-late 90s and, while I haven’t heard any OG pressing of this, this 2016 BG cut is close to flawless and sounds absolutely wonderful. Seems like they shipped over everything (labels, covers, inners, posters and stickers) from the UK initial press. I know people use a ton of buzz words to describe just how amazing a pressing can sound, but I will save everyone the cliche's and just say this. Eg the theory that it was pressed at a non EMI plant (someone mentioned Decca) is a lot more likely. Wish there was a little less brightness in the guitars and more oomph in Mason’s drums (on side 1, side 2 drums sound better to me).I have had the first press UK, 2nd pressing Uk, 1st press US, 1st press Japan, 2nd pressing Japan, and first pressing Germany and this pressing beats them all. Gatefold sleeve in matte finish, replica of original packaging including 2 stickers 2 posters, plus the new 30th anniversary poster and 25x25cm hype sticker. com/Pink-Floyd-The-Dark-Side-Of-The-Moon/release/15370292 BUT the labels don't have two "Made in Gt Britain" credits on each side, but do have the "The Gramophone Company Limited" below Side 1 and Side 2 with "EMI Records Ltd" in the top rim text. Label has "blue outline prism" design and rear sleeve has centre-aligned text on the top-right as expected. The reissues from 2003 had "Coloured Vinyl" Printed on the sleeve to look similar to the original issue, but it is printed, not a sticker.
