no offence, but it was obvious fact since the 47.. came out, that it uses a different actuation ratio as that of older 10 spd components. The Tiagra rear mech is available in small and medium cage, but unlike the other Shimano ranges Tiagra’s medium cage option has the capacity to take an 11-34 cassette. This offers the widest range of gears of all of Shimano’s ranges, making Tiagra the perfect groupset for a touring set-up. A key difference between Shimano 105 and Tiagra chainsets is that the 150 is quite a fair bit lighter than Tiagra. So, for those riders who are keen to minimize weight, this could be a key consideration. Front Derailleur Shimano claims (and I have no reason to doubt them) that the 11-speed 105 groupset is the most popular in the world. tiagra is different to all the other Shimano road 10 speed. It does indeed use the same pull ‘ratio’ as 11 speed, but the actual amount of cable it pulls is different to both traditional Shimano 10 speed road and Shimano 11 speed road.

Shimano Tiagra groupset review | Cycling Weekly

Both groupsets offer many great features, so you can see why the Shimano Tiagra vs 105 is a hotly debated topic. Both 105 and Tiagra are available in 165mm, 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm crank lengths. Diminutive riders can also choose a 160mm 105 R7000 crankset I'm not sure. I've bodged plenty things to an adequate standard before - if you're buying relatively expensive new kit it's nice if it works sweetly! Keep the mech but change the cassette (and chain) for 11spd items? is only available in a double. That means you’ll get a maximum of 22 gears with 105 but a maximum of 30 gears with Tiagra. There will be a weight penalty for the extra front chainring. When we reviewed Tiagra we said, “Shimano says it has revised the cable pitch on the rear derailleur (above), claiming it now offers 'precise and long-lasting shifting performance'. It's certainly living up to those claims compared with old Tiagra.” Cassette I've got a Sora RD3300 rear derailleur with the shimano hyper glide OS-HG50 8 speed cassette which i'd like to replace for a bigger gear range. We found the Tiagra front derailleur to shift cleanly, smoothly and quietly, even under load. Rear derailleur

Tiagra has cables that are routed underneath the handlebar tape like the higher level Shimano groupsets, a feature that was a long time coming to the budget groupset. The next difference is that the Tiagra brakes will work well up to a 28mm wide tire. The 105 brakes are slightly longer than they were before and this allows you the prospect of running up to 30mm wide tires. ChainsetThe dual pivots provide light, comfortable performance and Shimano claims a significant increase in modulation. Aside from the chainset, the new shifters are the most visible change from the previous Tiagra groupsets. The gear indicator windows have been lost and the size and shape are much like 105.
