Toronto International Film Festival (1080p; 30:27) is an engaging session with Michael Mann, both before and after a screening of the Now it's been only 5 years since Arrow Video delivered an impressive 4K remaster - supervised by Fraisse - on 1080p Blu-ray, one which would take some effort to beat. But that's precisely what Kino have done, taking a new 4K scan from the Original Camera Negative, and applying a new HDR colour grade (with Dolby Vision metadata), yielding improved results across the board.

Strong bass leaves a mark, but additional punch wouldn’t hurt. Depth and power resonate through the room and there’s enough weight to feel the jolts. It’s a lesser effect than top-end action discs though, the design such that guns fire in open air, louder than they are deep. Extras subvert what "HDR" may at least (rightly or wrongly) be thought of as providing. While I wouldn't term changes here extreme by any measure, Finally today, here’s a bit of DVD only news: MPI Media Group is releasing The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD on 6/21. The series has been restored and remastered in 4K from original picture and sound elements at the UCLA Film & Television Archive in honor of its 70th anniversary. Apparently, it will also be available digitally in HD. No edge or oversharpening was applied. There is some minor camera ringing, but I thought it was fine. The resolution is quite nice and allows the film grain to breathe, unlike the Blu-ray. Facial detail is revealing without being too intrusive. There is some softness in some scenes, but I found this to be, again, stylization rather than a flaw.Century Fox's 1080 version but which seems somewhat emphasized here, which almost makes things look monochromatic or even desaturated

proceedings. As Ken mentioned in his review and I'll concurred in my 1080 review, you'll be able to spot some softness, and I'd say maybe even Plot: What’s it about? Video: How does it look? Audio: How does it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about?

Overall, a very good transfer from Disney, and I'm happy with what they have done here. It's not an HDR showcase, but remember that the best transfer this year is also not bright. For a Few Dollars More from Kino Lorber is not bright either. Does it matter? No! This is all about the accuracy of the source, and this is how I've wanted this movie to look for years. A commendable job by Disney. Another movie from 20th Century Studios on 4K that's very well done. Remember, accuracy to the original source is what matters here. A masterpiece of a movie, and I recommend it on 4K. film may know that Heat received a prior release on 1080 Blu-ray by Warner Brothers before the 20th Century Fox release I reviewed, and

If you're hoping for a very immersive experience, well then Heat delivers in spades. Dynamics and spatial movement are amazingly energetic here. Seamless pans are everywhere--the train during the opening credits, the helicopter flybys, the airplanes landing and taking off at the airport--and adding extra punch to these scenes are extremely powerful bass frequencies. The rears are highly active with a variety of effects, from subtle ambiance in the restaurants and hotel lobby, to of course the heavy gunfire. The "ting" of shell casings hitting the ground is very distinguishable and bullets whiz by and burrow into the sides of vehicles with clarity. The multiple windshields shattering simultaneously during the armored car assault will likely make some OCD viewers vacuum their floor once the movie is finished. Tying it all together is Elliot Goldenthal's original score that pleasingly weaves its way through the sound field.shadowy ambience that otherwise pervades Mann's sensibilities here, where one might naturally assume HDR would add nuance to the mix (which it lustrous blue tones in nighttime scenes, as well as some of the yellow and orange tinged moments having very vibrantly impressive presentations, former is looking to the left, the latter facing forward. The rear panel follows the same basic color scheme. It's essentially blank beyond five figures Tearing around Europe with handguns, assault rifles, heavy machine guns, a grenade launcher and even a bazooka, De Niro literally has a blast on the action front too, even talking Reno through surgery to remove a bullet from his side with the off-the-cuff remark that he's an old pro at auto-surgery, having once had to remove an appendix with a grapefruit spoon, closing out his ordeal with "If you don't mind, I think I'm going to just pass out.". It's a word-perfect script and the cast lap it up. On the standard Blu-ray front, Universal has announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of Stephen King’s Firestarter (2022) on 6/28 (a Digital release is expected on 6/12). The release will include over an hour of special features, among them an alternate ending, 7 deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, audio commentary with director Keith Thomas, and 4 featurettes ( A Kinetic Energy, Spark a Fire, Igniting Firestarter, and Power Struggle). of the 1080 release from several years ago. Commendably, Disney / Buena Vista and 20th Century Productions have included both of the 1080 discs The use of surrounds is quite minimal compared to modern movies, and this isn't really the focus of the movie. With that said the movie has a great score, with beautiful music. overall this one may tow a kind of fine line between the darker 20th Century Fox 1080 presentation and lighter Warner 1080 presentation, thoughIn fact, the original 4-channel Dolby Stereo design is a very front-heavy, near-mono presentation with practically no activity in the surrounds and all the attention on the on-screen action. To be fair, movement across the front channels is satisfying and effective for a movie of this caliber and vintage, and even when applying the receivers' Dolby Surround or DTS: Neural:X up-mixing functionality, atmospherics seldom lightly bleed into the top heights or sides. Admittedly, this broadens the soundstage ever so slightly in some of the bigger action set pieces, but it's still nothing memorable or noteworthy. Meanwhile, those same sequences come with a rather meager sense of presence, as the mid-range largely feels restrained and uniform despite exhibiting strong distinction in the louder moments. The same can sadly be said of the lower frequencies, providing adequate bass to gunfire and the climactic bus chase but with very little impact or weight. Dialogue reproduction is also good and intelligible for the most part, but occasionally, vocals can lightly be drowned out by some of the action. slight variations in focus pulling, and there's a bit of fuzziness that can be detected in passing as a result that tends to be noticeable on the edges of By 1988, Arnie was on fire. Conan in '82, Terminator in '84, Commando in '85, Raw Deal in '86, The Running Man AND Predator in '87, then Twins AND Red Heat in '87. It was a fierce quest to dominate the Box Office in terms of his trademark action vehicles, and he would prove unstoppable for a whole 10 years, all the way through a career-high sci-fi actioner in Total Recall (possibly bested only by Predator)to a career-defining Terminator 2. There's practically zero bass. Nothing tested my subwoofer. The mix has rolled off bass at around 45Hz and falls off by about 8 to 10 db. This is the same mix that I've always known, but I would have liked to have seen this touched out. I'm not saying it has to have Dune levels of bass, but when the charges go off I want to feel it. That's basically no bass in the mix, and I love bass, so for me, that's a little disappointing.
