We don't use this laptop very often, due to its poor performance, so I figure we should use it more. I've heard linux can revive very old pc's, so I'm wondering if installing some linux distribution I could reach better performance doing the tasks we usually perform on this device. Positive: Good price; compact size; nice design; high mobility; decent hardware; good ergonomy; long battery life. While it's far from the fastest laptop money can buy, the 14-inch Lenovo Ideapad 120s performs surprisingly well for a system that costs about the same as a mid-range tablet or Chromebook. Lenovo's IdeaPad 120S stayed cool during our heat test. After we played a full-screen video for 15 minutes, the touchpad measured 75 degrees Fahrenheit, its keyboard (G and H keys) registered 82 degrees and the underside hit 85 degrees. These results passed our heat test with flying colors, as we consider temperatures above 95 degrees to be uncomfortable. However, if you simply want an affordable notebook with reasonable performance, the IdeaPad 120S is a reliable choice for web surfing and office tasks.

We don't expect much speed from eMMC hard drives, such as the 64GB module in the IdeaPad 120S, but this one fell under even those modest expectations. It took the notebook 2 minutes and 12 seconds to duplicate a DVD's worth of multimedia files, for a rate of 38.6 megabytes per second. That's slower than the 84.8MBps from the Inspiron 11 (32GB eMMC) and the 50.4MBps from the Stream 11. The decision comes down to personal preference. The smaller variant is lighter, more portable, and tends to run slightly cooler. The 14-inch model has a larger screen, more memory, and benchmarks slightly better. The keyboard on the 14-inch 120s is also a fair bit better, mainly due to the larger keys, but the screen is arguably worse than its 11.6-inch counterpart. Celeron N3350: An Apollo Lake family, dual-core, ultra-low-power processor (SoC) that saw the light of day in 2016. Its two cores run at 1.1 GHz to 2.4 GHz; these are not Hyper-Threading-enabled meaning there are no additional threads. This chip has a fairly competent integrated graphics solution, the Intel HD Graphics 500, and eats very little (~6 W). The Celeron N3350 is based on the Goldmont CPU microarchitecture that came to replace Silvermont (2013), bringing with it several welcome improvements. The CPU is Secure Boot-compatible; technically, it will have no issue running 64-bit Windows 11. The average N3350 in our database is just as fast as the venerable Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 is in multi-thread loads; the two cores of this Celeron trail behind a single core of any half-decent CPU such as the Intel Core i3-7130U.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-100-series/Ideapad-110S-11IBR/p/88IP10S0803?menu-id=110S_(11,_Intel) Lenovo is committed to providing an uncluttered desktop and safer computing experience out of the box. We've removed all third party apps except McAfee LiveSafe and Microsoft Office. With Lenovo App Explorer, you can safely and easily discover and install only the apps you need and want. Long-term stability is questionable. After several runs through our Cinebench R15 loop test, the Ideapad 120s 11 is consistent in its inconsistency. Scores are all over the place with frequent dips in performance. Users should expect some kind of performance throttling during extended workloads. The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 32.1 °C / 90 F, compared to the average of 30.7 °C / 87 F for the devices in the class Subnotebook.
