Description

Fortress of Hong Thong – 35%, and this drink sold in flat small bottles and standard bottles of 0,7 liters with a label light beige color, on which is written the name in big red letters. Larger bottles are sold in gift boxes of red color. Unlike brand Mekhong, whiskey Hong Tong I occasionally buy and drink, pre-cooled in a refrigerator of hotel (this drink in a warm as it seems to me nasty). But for drink at home i still never take Hong Thong whiskey from Thailand and like souvenir too. Sang Thip Whiskey Some of the best Thai whiskeys include Sangsom, Mekhong, and Chiang Rai. These whiskeys are all produced by different distilleries, but they share a commonality in their smooth taste and slight sweetness. SangSom (แสงโสม) is a rum from Thailand, distilled from sugarcane. It was introduced in November 1977 and has since become a dominant brand in the Thai spirits market. Over 70 million litres are sold in Thailand each year, achieving a market share of more than 70 percent in its category. The Kham Khong song was very popular and avidly instilled a patriotic sense into the hearts of Thai people. Such a dramatic effect influenced the Excise Department to use "Mekhong" to name the 35-degree special blended spirit that was newly produced in 1941. Also, the sale of alcohol is completely banned in some important national holidays, such as the birthday of the King or Queen, etc. A ban on alcohol sales in Thailand are often announced and during the elections to various state authorities. What to do if you want to drink alcohol, but its stores do not sell even beer ? Firstly, many bars at your disposal. Second, a minimum set of alcohol in Thailand is usually contained in the mini-bar hotel. Third, you should remember the main holidays in Thailand (at the same time learn the culture of the country). By law, alcohol is not sold in stores near schools, churches, especially mosques, shops and gas stations. Also, be aware that the sale of alcohol in Thailand is only allowed to persons with the age after 20 years. However, such a restriction on tourists especially are not covered, so that even high school graduates and first-year students can be assured that they will not go without alcohol, and to drink or not to drink – it’s up to them.

Far more refined than Chiang Choom, a signature Thai spirit was developed and produced from a concoction of sugar cane, rice whiskey and a blend of secret Thai spices. Also in the thai supermarkets you can find and fruit and berry wines under the brand Fresco, which for its unusual taste and aroma have already won several international medals. Personally, I really like this sparkling wine. Generally, the wine industry in the country is developing rapidly, so many of those who “turn up his nose” of Thai wine 10 years ago recognized that today it has become much better and more pleasant to the taste. Among the most recommended to eat Thai wine brands can be noted Mont Clair, Peter Vella and Kookaburra, produced under the supervision of European winemakers. Hong Thong offers a variety of options to suit different tastes and preferences. Whether one prefers a mild and refreshing drink or a more robust flavor, Hong Thong has something to offer. Usage

HOUSE OF MEKHONG

Later, the Excise Department concocted another blended spirit using herbs combined with a traditional medicated liquor recipe. Herbs and spices were fermented in a spirit of high alcohol content before adding the desired flavor, aroma, and the preferred degree of alcohol. The result was a new kind of spirit which was smooth enough to be drunk neat. It was further developed into a "special blended spirit" which could be enjoyed neat or with a mix of soda. In those days, the preferred drink was imported whiskey mixed with soda. This imported whiskey resulted in a substantial loss of income to the country each year. The special blended spirit produced by the Excise Department helped reduce imports significantly. While Sang Som and Mekhong are quite popular brown liquors they are not quite whiskeys but rather rums: The primary ingredient of these two brands is molasses which makes them spiced rum. I love Mekhong. I love its history. I love its taste. I love its bottle. And I especially love how the “hoity toity” whiskey connoisseurs hate the stuff with a passion. Maybe it’s also because they’re slightly cheaper than Sang Som. It’s around 139 Baht for a 350ml bottle of Hong Thong compared to about the same price for a 300ml Sang Som bottle. But then Sang Som is a bit stronger (40%) compared to Hong Thong and Blend 285 (both 35% alcohol).

In 1914, the ownership of the privately-owned Sura Bangyikhan Distillery (lit. Bangyikhan Liquor Distillery) was transferred to the government of Thailand to be under the supervision of the Excise Department, Ministry of Finance. The department then opened a bidding for a concession to raise money for the treasury and authorized the bidder to produce and distribute spirits within a specified area. The Thai government decided to brand their new booze with the name Mekhong. The name aroused patriotism, nationalism and played favorably into the government’s war against the French. Shortly after the government took direct control of production at Bangyikhan, they developed and sold Chiang Choon-a very rough blended spirit distilled primarily from sugar cane. This was the original blended spirit of Bangyikhan Distillery and essentially the forerunner to Mekhong. The production of Hong Thong is a complex and time-consuming process, which requires a great deal of skill and expertise to achieve the desired flavor and quality. The result is a premium spirit that is enjoyed by people all over the world. Taste

Nom Yen, or ‘pink milk,’ is a delightful iced milk drink with sugary sala syrup. Famous for its vibrant color and fruity taste, this drink from Thailand is often compared to commercial strawberry milk. Popular with children, you’ll find Nom Yen sold in plastic bags by street vendors in most Thai cities alongside juices, sodas, and Thai energy drinks. Krating Daeng The original distillery was located at the mouth of the Bangyikhan canal (klong) where it empties into the Chao Praya river-hence the name. Foreigners, especially whiskey aficionados, are aghast that Thais refer to Mekhong as a whiskey. While these aficionados may know something about distilled spirits, they know precious little about Thais and how they filch English words for their own purposes. Ownership of Bangyikhan eventually ended up with Thai Beverage, Inc.-a massive conglomerate of distilled and brewed beverages and related companies. M-E-K-H-O-N-G: Why the weird spelling? FOOD PAIRING

This is the drink that is almost on a par with Sangsom, and although it is again often given the ‘whisky’ moniker, it is also distilled largely from sugar cane and rice (on a 95/5 percent ratio) to a mere 35% proof. It initially came from a privately-owned company that was eventually taken over by the government, whose intention was to reduce the amount of revenue being spent on imported whisky (as well as stoke a bit of patriotism). Eventually, the rights were leased out by the government and these days it is owned by the massive Thai Beverage Inc. Such alcohol in Thailand, as the grape wine is not too popular with the locals, because the culture of wine was born in the country of just over 30 years ago, and in the sale of the first Thai wine appeared only in 1995 under the name Chateau de Loei. Therefore, in the most of the stores you can find not local, but imported wine from Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and from Europe. The minimum price for a bottle in the supermarket 200-300 THB. The cost of a good old wine from major world producers comes to 1000-1500 baht per bottle. Thai wine is also represented in the supermarkets of the country mainly from the company Siam Winery, which owns a large number of vineyards in the district of Hua-Hin. After each glass of the Mekhong, I want to drink something more enjoyable, so it is best to dilute this whiskey with cola or other soft drinks. Despite a long history (first released in 1941) and love for him Thais themselves, a brand, a former long time the most popular in the country, gradually lost their positions, and from 2010 this brand vooobsche not produced till 2011 (in this period production and brand was sold to the new owner). Personally, I did not like the Mekhong whiskey, bought more than once, and no such desire, because I like to drink in the pure form. But everyone has different tastes, so you can try, because this drink cheaper than SangSom. Hong Thong Whiskey
