part " keneh bosem" oil, which is sometimes spelled " kaneh bosem" (see article Holy anointing oil section "Identification of kaneh bosem") B) Even as Perdurabo indicated (somewhere) in Liber 418: One must cross the Abyss twice – The first time with assistance, the second time in full consciousness. One feature of the Abramelin which is significant is the ritual death and rebirth which marks all initiation rituals in the mystery traditions. The death and resurrection ritual is attained after a gruelling regime of devotion and ritual prayer, during which time the adherent dedicates themselves through more and more intense observations and prescriptions. This becomes nothing short of a ritual initiation and, indeed, the fruition of the Operation confers authority in the adherent over the infernal demons. According to the S. L. MacGregor Mathers English translation from 1897, which derives from an incomplete French manuscript copy of The Book of Abramelin, the recipe is: Overall, the work is consistent with Kabbalistic and Goetic ritual practices of the time. Many modern Kabbalah practitioners believe that the initiates of the Abramelin era used the ritual as a tool to transform the mind into something more closely resembling the mind of God. Like some Tantric rituals from Tibetan Buddhism, the eventual visualization of the Holy Guardian Spirit may be more of a deeply meditative, transformative thought exercise than a literal summoning ritual. And after the operation, after the Angel... then the implementation of all the wonderful opportunities and gifts comes to life and even more work begins. The blessing indeed is to know that you are doing YOUR work and making the "right" input by your life. The actual authorship of the Book of Abramelin is highly debated. Scholar and translator Georg Dehn believes the author may have been Rabbi Yakov Levi Moelin, a 14 th century German Talmudist, authority on Jewish Law, composer, and rebuilder of communities ravaged by war. Others believe that it was truly written by Abraham of Worms, while some even claim that the similarly mythical alchemist Nicholas Flamel was the true source. Yes, I completed the Abramelin Operation just over a year ago. It worked. I did discover my true will and definatly united with my HGA. I spent 6 months getting rid of all of the obstacles in my way to the connection. I then realized why it had been so difficult before to realize this connection. It was the most difficult, yet most rewarding 6 months of my life, and beleive me I have been through some tough times previously. For the most part, it is still really hard to put into words. You definatly do become one with love as well as strength. A German translation, credited to Abraham of Worms and edited by Georg Dehn, was published in 2001 by Edition Araki. In the Dehn version, the fourth book is included, and it is primarily based on the German sources. [ citation needed] All 251 of the word squares are completely filled in. [ citation needed] An English translation of Dehn's edition was published in 2006 by the American publisher Nicholas Hays. Keep in mind that the internet is yet another distraction. Anything past the first 2 months would go against the goals of the operation. Yes this includes magical forums 21st Century mage is an excellent book on the topic of modern Abramelin operations btw.

All instructions of cleanliness and fairness from the first phase must remain, and ideally be strengthened in daily practice. A fast should be undertaken every Sabbath eve. A retreat from society should be made whenever possible, for as long as possible, during this phase. The Book of Abramelin is regarded primarily as a guide for the conjuration of a Holy Guardian Angel or Spirit. Rooted in Jewish Mysticism, the Abrahamic language of the text suggests that these spirits are biblical Angels. They serve as intermediaries with a singular, compassionate, and omnipotent God figure consistent with Medieval Jewish idealizations. Later commentators like Aleister Crowley believed the process could be altered to conjure or construct an idealized entity based in any desired language and symbolism at the discretion of the conjurer. Crowley himself performed the primary ritual of Abramelin twice. What does the Book of Abramelin contain? The four ingredients listed by Mathers in his translation of The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage (1897) are Myrrh, Cinnamon, Galangal, and Olive oil. The word that he translated from the French as " Galangal" is actually the word " Calamus." The other extant manuscripts also list "Calamus" as the ingredient. It is unknown if Mathers' use of Galangal instead of Calamus was intentional or a mistranslation, but it was to result in several notable changes, including symbolism and use. As Martin P. Starr once said to me, "Or they didn't have any idea what they were doing and the claim is absolutely meaningless." (Or words to that effect). So there's always that to remember. Are you keeping a list of these things that need to be remembered? One iteresting aspect of the Abramelin working is that even though I had been practicing magic for quite a few years before I did the working, I felt like I learned more in that 6 months about myself and about magic then I had in all of the years previous put together! And in those previous 10 or so years, I had studied daily, performed rituals, meditation, contemplation etc. daily, and kept up a very regular practice of inner work as well as introspection! So in other words, it is one hell of a working! My friends noticed that I came out of it more at peace. I feel that I changed completely LOL. When I completed the Abramelin working, I did not feel like an "adept" as is figured, I felt like I was just finally starting on the path of magic.

All German copies of the text consist of four books: an autobiographical account of the travels of Abraham of Worms to Egypt, a book of assorted materials from the corpus of the practical Kabbalah (including some which is duplicated in the German-Jewish grimoire called "The Sixth and 7th Books of Moses") and the two books of magic given by Abramelin to Abraham. The well-known English translation by S.L. MacGregor Mathers from the French Manuscript in Paris contains only three of the four books. The ritual as described in the Mathers manuscript lasts six months. Newer compilations and translations contain all four books, and describe a duration of 18 months for completing the ritual. The Hebrew version in Oxford is limited to Book One, without reference to the further books. Scent: The oils of Mathers and Crowley have a different aroma from the Jewish Abramelin oil. The scent of galangal is gingery and spicy whereas calamus is florally sweet yet a bit yeasty—although the scent of the final oil is strongly cinnamon. ABA, pg. 399: "He then found himself, having destroyed all other karma, perfectly free to pursue this one work [KCHGA]. He then accomplished the six months of Invocation, as prescribed in The Book of the Sacred Magic, and was rewarded in October, 1906, by complete success*. (*An account of these matters, in part, is to be found in The Equinox I[8], and in his own poem "Aha!")

END OF THE FIRST BOOK.

It is difficult to know where to start when talking about Aleister Crowley. A name known to history for being controversial and taking part in clandestine religious practices, Crowley has influenced the alternative world of mysticism and the occult and much of popular culture in music, film and literature since the beginning of the twentieth–century. He was one of the many famous faces on The Beatles’ Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, and was featured number 73 in BBC’s 100 Greatest Britons in 2002. Still, he was a man that has been greatly misunderstood in popular media both during his lifetime and after, and is deserving to be treated as a historical figure in his own right—someone who has influenced culture significantly during his life and after his death. And in his great weakness it may be that for awhile the new Will and Aspiration are not puissant, yet being undisturbed by those dead weeds of doubt and reason which he hath uprooted, they grow imperceptibly and easily like a flower. Early in the 20th century, the British occultist Aleister Crowley created his own version of Abramelin Oil, which he called "Oil of Abramelin," and sometimes referred to as the "Holy Oil of Aspiration." It was based on S. L. MacGregor Mathers' substitution of Galangal for Calamus. Crowley also abandoned the book's method of preparation—which specifies blending Myrrh "tears" (resin) and "fine" (finely ground) Cinnamon—instead opting for pouring together distilled essential oils with a small amount of olive oil. His recipe (from his Commentary to Liber AL vel Legis) reads as follows:
