The Italian text that the author inserts is *far* too much for an English language novel. Rarely is there an intuitive link to the text for someone who doesn’t know Italian. It’s only by coincidence that I have a bunch of Duolingo under my belt, but if I hadn’t, then something as simple as ‘Gli uomini’ doesn’t add depth to the book, it distracts from it. The Swallows of Lunetto is not a story of war, exactly. It is a story, in part, of war’s aftermath, of what happens when a young man looks up from his youth and realizes, with horror, what he has done. And it is a story of the love and forgiveness that just might be possible not only in spite of but because of the ways in which we have erred. I studied in Italy in the 90s, & spent a lot of time in Calabria, & Fasano gets this place, this people, & their spirit absolutely right. SOL is an immersive experience, a wild love story, a trembling account of how politicians find the vulnerable places in our private lives and slip in, remaking us into something we only later see we've become. Boy meets girl. Boy loves girl. Girl loses her mind. Manic Depressive Dream Girl is a story of love as a drug you can't quit, of the manic pixie dream girl as more than she appears, and of hope and holding on.something like that is perhaps beyond words. It’s a monstrous thing. And such things are only given a shape later. In the story we tell. Naadeyah Haseeb is a writer from Raleigh, North Carolina who loves to pretend. Her writing has appeared in e Butter, Literary Orphans, Quaint Magazine, and Maudlin House. What had been missing in those previous manuscripts, I now see, was the voice, the inevitable music and thrust of the narrative. Suddenly—and as often happens in life, inexplicably—that voice announced itself to me, and I began writing. The difference, of course, was that now I was listening; I was letting the story have its way with me.

Magical moment' for author as he sat next to stranger on plane reading his book". 23 February 2023. Swallows fly in the basilica where Leonardo contemplated death; they fly in and out of Alexandra’s open bedroom windows as she and Leonardo tell their stories. They grow quiet when Alexandra gives birth. They represent hope, new life, renewal. A novella about an Artist pushing himself to the brink in the name of his art. We’re all dying but his art can save us, or at least that’s what he says… Luis Neer is a high school student and the author of This is a Room Where You Wait for New Language (Ghost City Press, October 2015). They live in West Virginia. Learning about one’s ancestors is a two-edged sword. I have personally discovered horror stories: a family massacred by Native Americans; forced conscription; generations of refugees pushing across continents, those persecuted for their faith traveling across an ocean; a runaway teenager fleeing a dictatorial father. And, most appalling of all, a beloved grandfather who spent four months in prison for attempted “ravishment” of a teenage girl.Ross McCleary is from Edinburgh in Scotland. He says he has stories and poems published widely in print and online. He says he has had a pamphlet published by Spacecraft Press. He says he is one of the organisers of spoken word night Inky Fingers. He says he is the editor of podcast journal Lies, Dreaming. He says he is working on 2 pieces loosely linked to this book. He says he was born 9 months after Jorge Luis Borges passed away. He says a lot of things and not all of them are lies.
