Figure 2. The UV Index Scale helps shows expected sun exposure risks and recommendations for different levels of UV Index. Physical sunscreen containing zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, or both. Should be a lotion (not a spray) and should have the same SPF as the chemical sunscreen. The Beer-Lambert law says that the absorbance of light by a chemical in a solution is equal to the product of the chemical's concentration, the path length of light in the container (l) in centimeters, and the molar absorption coefficient (formerly referred to as the "extinction coefficient"). The size of the molar absorption coefficient reflects how well the molecule absorbs light of a given wavelength. But how do we get from the UV meter readings to the concentration of sunscreen chemicals? This question is answered by the Beer-Lambert law (Equation 1), which states that the concentration of a chemical in a sample solution is directly proportional to the amount of light it absorbs. If you double the concentration of the chemical, the solution absorbs twice as much light. Your tests in this project were limited to one physical and one chemical sunscreen. But how do different sunscreens compare? Repeat the experiment with different sunscreens. Do you see different results for sunscreen lotions versus spray sunscreens? Does the sun protection factor (SPF) make a difference? And how do different sunscreen brands compare?

It all started friendly and cordial and, dare we say, jokey, until Deborah Meaden said they needed to get down to business with Stephen and Jacqueline Pyne’s one-stop whisky shop Scotch Galore Whiskies. Despite tempting them with booze, the dragons felt it wasn’t a business for an investor, but it would surely make the Pynes some good money. The sun is on the left. In the middle, a blue rectangle represents a cuvette filled with sample. On the right, an orange box represents the UV meter. A yellow line from the sun to the UV meter represents the sunlight shining on the UV sensor. The line color gets lighter after passing through the cuvette due to UV light absorption of the sample. Whisky connoisseurs Stephen and Jacqueline Pyne from Scotch Galore Whiskies were next in the Den. They provide a free-to-use online platform for buying and selling whisky, earning a small commission on each exchange. After a muddling explanation of the finances and concerns expressed about a limitation on potential profit, all of the Dragons were out, recommending that this is a great business exactly as it is. To a happy and hopeful Series 21

Store the decanted lotion in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Ensure the bottle is tightly sealed to prevent air exposure Use the spreadsheet program to add a linear trendline to your data. Display the correlation factor R 2 and the equation of the trendline in your plot. Note:The correlation factor tells you how well the trendline matches your data. A perfect fit is 1. Your correlation factor should be at least 0.9. If this is not the case, you might have made some mistakes while preparing your standard solutions or during your measurements. Repeat your measurements or make new standard solutions until you achieve a correlation factor greater than 0.9 before continuing your data analysis. Solar Buddies are unique because they are a refillable applicator that allows you to use a sunscreen of your choice. They are easy to use, with less mess and no waste. Label a fresh pipette as "water." This will prevent the pipettes from getting mixed up later. With the pipette, add 10mL of water to each labeled mini cup. Swirl the cup or use two fresh spoons to mix the solutions in each cup. Observe what happens in each cup and record your observations. Today I’m going to be reviewing the Solar Buddies Sunscreen Applicator. I was sent this last August, but by the time I was ready to try it out the great British Summer abruptly ended. So, after nearly a year later I can finally test and write about this gadget by Kelli Aspland and Laura Griffin who invented the Solar Buddies Sunscreen Applicator. The wavelength in nanometers is on the x-axis and the irradiance in watts per square meter is on the y-axis. Below the x-axis the wavelength ranges of Ultraviolet, Visible, and Infrared light are marked. The graph shows a larger peak between 250 and 1200 nanometers, with two smaller peaks in the 1200 nm to 2200 nm range. Cleanliness: Ensure both bottles are clean. If using a previously used bottle, wash it thoroughly and let it dry completely before transferring the lotion. The Solar Buddies Sunscreen Applicator is small is size and measures approximately 10.0cm in height and 6.0cm at its widest section. When empty it weighs a mere 50G. Once you have a good calibration curve, you can use the trendline equation to calculate the sunscreen concentration of your samples. Because you plotted absorbance on the y-axis, the "y" in your trendline equation represents the absorbance of your measured sample. The "x" of your trendline equation represents the sunscreen concentration of your sample, since you plotted the sunscreen concentration on the x-axis.

Mood Bears is an enterprise underpinned by empathy. The company produces eight teddy bears that represent an emotion, with the aim of helping people cope with and articulate how they’re feeling. Each fluffy and colourful bear additionally comes with its own poem. The company says the bears are there to listen, without judgement, or just there to cuddle. There’s Happy Bear, Sad Bear, Angry Bear, Calm Bear, Nervous Bear, Hope Bear, Love Bear and Silly Bear. Solar Buddies is a child friendly sunscreen applicator with a sponge and roller ball partnership. It is refillable, allowing the consumer to use a sunscreen of choice, and allows for ease of use so helps with dexterity and sensory issues. No more messy hands and great for kids in school to teach the importance of skincare, sun care, and reapplying sunscreen.Find a place to put your UV meter upright with the UV sensor facing the sun. Keep the UV meter standing at the same location during your measurements. For your measurements, ideally, the UV meter should read around 7 when facing the sun. Record the UV Index that you measure in your data table. This standard is a 1:2 dilution of standard #5 and has a sunscreen concentration of 0.0015g per 10mL water This week’s episode rounded up the end of series 20 and it was a good’n. Right from the off we got the whole set of UK registered intellectual property (IP) rights come up for a sunscreen applicator. Also this week we have water-softening shower essentials, a whisky e-commerce platform… and Dragons hugging bears. I would highly recommend having a chat with a professional legal adviser so you know all your rights and what you could apply for at the IPO to best cover your business and product or service.

This is where the Solar Buddies Sunscreen Applicator comes into play, children can apply sunscreen themselves. Mess Free! (Well hopefully). For those who don’t know, hard water is water with a high mineral content and a high concentration of calcium and magnesium. There have been studies linking hard water to dry hair and increased eczema symptoms. Hello Klean makes a screw-on filter that softens the water. It features a stainless mesh to capture sand and other sediments; calcium sulphite removes chlorine; KDF 55 targets minerals and residual chlorine; granular activated carbon to remove bacteria, mould and odours; and ceramic beads help to balance the shower water's pH level. It is important to note that with the UV meter you do not directly measure the absorbance of your sample. Absorbance means how much light gets absorbed by your sample. What you measure with the UV meter is the amount of light passing through the sample, which is called transmittance. The absorbance has a logarithmic relationship to the transmittance. You can use Equation 2 to convert a value from percent transmittance (%T) to absorbance. Prepare one set of samples and complete the following steps for each of your water-soluble sunscreen(s). Note: If only one of your sunscreens was water soluble, you will prepare three samples for this sunscreen, but if both sunscreens were water soluble, you will prepare an additional three samples for the second sunscreen. You can use different colored markers for different sunscreens. Chemical sunscreen uses different active ingredients. These can include avobenzone, homosalate, octocrylene, and octisalate. When chemical sunscreen is applied, these chemicals penetrate the skin. Once there, they absorb harmful UV radiation and transform it into non-damaging radiation or heat, as shown in Figure 3 on the right. Because the UV-absorbing chemicals need time to penetrate the skin, it is important to apply chemical sunscreen at least 15 minutes before sun exposure. One benefit of chemical sunscreens is that they do not leave a white layer on your skin like mineral sunscreens do.This standard is a 1:10 dilution of standard #5 and has a sunscreen concentration of 0.0003g per 10mL water. Chemical sunscreen containing at least one of the following ingredients: avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, or octocrylene. Should be a lotion (not a spray) and have the same SPF as the physical sunscreen. The pointer finger of another hand is inserted into the bag through the hole cut in the bottom corner of the bag. The finger is submerged in the water inside the bag. vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”The problems and the solutions.” font_container=”tag:h3|font_size:32px|text_align:center” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
