Take your knife and carefully cut around the outer circumference of the wax, just along the top edge. Remove the upper “lid” of wax. Next, turn over the cheese and cut the wax across the centre. Gently pull the rest of the wax away from the cheese before slicing up and cubing the cheese, ready to serve. Northern Ireland and Islands (Isle of Man, Scilly, Skye, Wight, Jersey, Guernsey): we currently do not ship to. To create our products, we source only the finest fresh and natural ingredients, taking our inspiration from the lush greenery of beautiful Snowdonia National Park. While we first started out selling our premium Cheddar and Red Leicester cheeses at local markets, we soon won a cult following – as well as multiple awards. Today, our cheeses and chutneys are loved all over the world and can be found in more than 25 countries. We’re proud to offer the full Snowdonia range in our online cheese shop, as well as a carefully selected collection of wines, beers and cheese accompaniments from our favourite guest producers. But what about cutting waxed cheeses? We’re often asked about the best way, so here we’ll share our favourite techniques. The first step is to remove the cheese from the fridge and allow it to reach room temperature before cutting into it. This softens the wax slightly and makes it much easier to separate from the cheese. Cheese also tastes even better when it’s not fridge-cold.

In their wax casings, Snowdonia cheeses will last up to the best before date in the fridge. Once the cheese has been cut open, wrap it tightly in cling film, store in an airtight container in the fridge and eat within seven to ten days. If you are buying cheeses for a special occasion, please allow an extra day or two for your cheeses to arrive, in case of unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances. Other cheeses from Snowdonia Cheese company include Green Thunder, Red Devil and Bouncing Berry. Recipes: Our cheeses are famous for their jewel-coloured wax casings – not only do they look good, but they keep the cheese tasting delicious, retain all-important moisture and help preserve it, too. For centuries, Lancashire dairy farmers’ wives made cheese from surplus milk. On small farms, there was insufficient milk from a single days milking to make a cheese, and so each day’s milk was curdled and accumulated for several days until there was enough curd to make a cheese. Two or three days’ curd of varying maturity are then blended together, giving Lancashire cheeses a distinctive character. Making a unique cheeses that can sit proudly amongst all British cheeses.
