Designed in 1941 and still going strong today, the Chemex is one of the best (and most good-looking) ways to make and serve several cups of filter coffee at once. The Chemex allows you to reheat your coffee without losing flavour, and is really easy to clean just remove the polished wood collar and leather tie and either hand wash it or pop it in the dishwasher.

We maintain long term relationships with our carefully selected coffee farms, to provide the stability they need to plan for the future.Laura and James, grandchildren of the bowler hatted gentleman, now have the ropes firmly in their grasp; James as our resident Q Grader in the Bristol Roastery Headquarters, and Laura in London.

All of our coffee is roasted and packed at our roastery on Foundry Road, Ammanford where we employ local people to bring them into the world of third-wave coffee. g. cleaning and decalcifying agents or water filters) that do not correspond to the original specifications. Water measurements: Use either the cup measurements on the water tank on the Ottomatic, or the glass Chemex® carafe to measure your water.Chemex filters are thicker than HARIO V60 filters, so more oils will naturally find their way into your cup with a HARIO V60 versus a Chemex. In our third generation, and a wholly independent family company, you can find us rooted in Bristol; the same city as when Mr Wogan established the business over fifty years ago.

cup Chemex of heat proof, laboratory grade, borosilicate glass with polished wood collar and leather tie designed by Dr Peter Schlumbohm, PHD, 1941. Not bitter, no gritty sediment or unusual secondary flavours picked up from parts of a complex machine you are unable to clean properly (we hate those annoying machine parts! Slowly pour the remaining water over the grounds, using a circular or back-and-forth motion as you pour to ensure an even soaking of the grounds. In our recipes, we measure water in grams because we use scales, and it’s easy to achieve precision this way.

The design has barely changed since its creation in 1941, and we can see why; it's a striking piece and makes a beautiful cup of coffee. The classic carafe makes a clean cup of coffee with far less sediment than any other brewing method . If there is a particular coffee you would like repeated or are keen to try then please do get in contact and let us know.

Coffee is brewed by first folding the paper filter into shape by using the folded side with a printed number 3, where the pour spout is located and placing it into the neck of the flask. Made from high quality glass the Chemex coffee maker has featured in movies and museums all over the world. In 1958, designers at the Illinois Institute of Technology selected the Chemex Coffeemaker as "one of the best-designed products of modern times. You can get a Chemex coffee maker in various shapes and sizes, from the Three-Cup Classic Chemex to a 13-Cup Handblown Chemex .

Place your ground coffee into the filter and slowly pour over 100 grams of heated water, starting in the center and working your way out. It became so popular that it’s even earned a spot at the MoMA and appeared on numerous films and TV shows, such as James Bond’s From Russia with Love and Friends.
