Description

For the rest of his working life, Lionel was a senior research chemist and then a research supervisor in analytical chemistry. A Father’s Story is both “a touching memoir and a haunting confession” that sees Lionel reflect on how his child had “somewhere crossed the line that divides the human from the monstrous”. Everyone wants to know more about famous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer following Netflix’s new biographical drama series. The book is the story of a father who “by slow, incremental degrees, came to realise the saddest truth that any parent may ever know”.

Published in March 1994, A Father’s Story is the memoir Lionel wrote about his son, in which he discusses Dahmer’s life and crimes. Evan Peters plays Dahmer, who killed 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, in the 10-part series which has horrified viewers across the globe. He lives a quiet life away from the public eye, but his most recent TV appearance was in 2020 on the Investigation Discovery series Jeffrey Dahmer: Mind of a Monster.

At the end of Episode 8 of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer series, we see Lionel writing the book after the trial has ended.

The criminal was sentenced to 15 life terms in prison in 1992 and beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver on November 28, 1994.In Episode 9, we then see a publisher telling Lionel that if the book sells over 50,000 copies, they have to give the money to the victims’ families Born in 1936, Lionel worked as a writer after graduating from University of Wisconsin and went on to get a Master of Science from Marquette University. He then graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from Iowa State University in 1966 and was away studying for lots of Jeffrey and his brother David’s childhoods.

He sits at home on his typewriter and tells his wife Shari that he’s writing about “that Christmas before Jeff went into the Army”.
