He has also published an autobiography, A Young Man's Passage, which covers his life and career up to the 1993 "Norman Lamont incident" at the British Comedy Awards. I love this book, the combination of David Roberts expressive human dressed hyenas, and Julian Clary's very clever and usually laughing hyena family, is spot on!

The cookie is used to calculate visitor, session, campaign data and keep track of site usage for the site's analytics report. There's some hidden point to the book about immigration and living paperless, but it's all well hidden underneath the crazy stuff the Bolds do. Join Mr and Mrs Bold and their twins Betty and Bobby as they navigate work, school and friends whilst trying to keep up their disguise. I loved all the Bold family members, as well as Roberts' cheeky illustrations of them (and Mr Bold's regular cracker jokes - part of his job). I loved it, I am sure I could have loved a story about The Bolds all the book long, but this brought some extra excitement and fun to the story. James Button's set is a metallic pastille and neon combination, and alongside Anna Watson's vibrant lighting and Natasha Harrison's over the top, campy choreography, it all works.

The story arc didn't quite feel finished, and there were all sorts of opportunities built right into the plot for the author to heighten the stakes but Clary just let them slip through his fingers. For those who raise an eyebrow at Clary’s clean and family friendly vibe, feel free to relax it again. Yet he has had huge success with his best-selling series The Bolds, about a group of hyenas living in disguise as humans in Teddington, west London, and which combine subtle messages about assimilation and identity with lashings of rambunctious child-friendly comedy. Clary began appearing on television in the mid-1980s and became known for his deliberately stereotypical camp style.

He has now adapted the first book in the series himself for the Unicorn Theatre’s Christmas show and, if the result is not entirely clean, wholesome entertainment (it’s recommended for six-years-plus) – there are an awful lot of references to bottoms, for one thing – it marks a pretty jolly start to the festive season. They wear clothes and hats to cover their hyena features, so the neighbours have no idea what they really are, though they notice they laugh a lot, as will readers of these hugely entertaining stories. It takes a lot of effort to get things this simple and straightforward, especially in a piece of work that deals with big questions. A louche loner in dressing gown and fez who clutches a teddy bear for comfort, he’s fretfully obsessed with the strange goings on next door, particularly Mr Bold’s habit of rubbing his backside against the hydrangeas.

The Bolds Go Green – The Bolds The Bolds Go Green – The Bolds

A couple of foxes are disturbing the human residents of Fairfield Street putting themselves in danger of being captured. Melko hyvin he tehtävässään onnistuvatkin, kunnes yrmeä naapuri alkaa tulla epäluuloiseksi ja pitää perhettä entistä tarkemmin silmällä. Travelling to the UK on their tickets and passports, they move into 41 Fairfield Gardens where, since the pair they replace had only recently moved in, no one seems the wiser. But now their kindness to animal waifs and strays has become legendary, and more and more animals keep turning up to stay!As the play begins, we’re introduced to a family of four laughing hyenas who come upon the bony leavings of the Bolds, an unfortunate English couple eaten by crocodiles while on safari in Tanzania.
