That said, overall image sharpness and broad, full-screen and even distant clarity are crystal-clear resolution, razor-sharp edges, a clarity to die for, and still more fine, natural detail.

Finally, rounding out the documentary material is "Inside the Allspark" (17 minutes), which goes into even more minute detail on the various CGI elements -- animatics, renderings, surface texture, light sources, etc. I wished for a bit more of a genuine wrap-up to the whole doc here, but this one certainly tells you just about everything you need to know about creating a CGI robot. Transformers” comes to Blu-ray in a brilliant-looking 2.35:1 HD AVC transfer (the HD DVD was a VC-1 transfer). I really can’t imagine seeing a movie like this in a narrow scope and the wider screen gives us that much more reason to appreciate the new HD formats and how good they really look on screen. The image itself is nearly perfect, with no pixilation evident, no artifacting and flesh tones seemed warm and natural (though actress Megan Fox does seem a bit sun-drenched at times, but it could just be her). Naturally a big part of the movie are the special effects and they look amazing. I wouldn’t have thought that the actual robots would look as good as they do, but it seems that with HD you can see every detail in the robots. Colors are bright and vivid and though some of the movie is a bit dark, the transfer holds up very well. For a new release, “Transformers” gives the viewer exactly what they were asking for. Audio: How does it sound?decade old now, the visuals remain amongst the best the industry has seen so far. Paramount's UHD brings out every digital robot nuance with striking relentlessly, and overbearingly hot as the typical Michael Bay picture, but there's still that unmistakable Bay-signature warm push to much of the film.

The Last Knight embraces even more formats and cinematographic processes than Age of Extinction. Amidst the melee of source formats are ARRIRAW at 6.5K, Panavision anamorphic, IMAX 3D (6.5K), Redcode RAW at 6K and so on. Paramount's UHD is fantastic, too, featuring excellent picture and a never reaching that more typically Bay level of "cooked." The image appears free of any print wear or major artifacts, though a few edge halos are examples, particularly Bumblebee yellow and Prime red and blue, but even natural greens, odds and ends around various home and school locations,

I realize I'm in the minority, but it is only when the film's big third act commences that I personally begin to lose interest. It is here that Bay's love of military might takes over, as our nation's finest swoop in to try to prevent Cybertron's civil war from being staged on Earth. Of course, there's no stopping the inevitable, and so we have a nearly 30-minute extended action sequence where all manner of Los Angeles buildings are demolished as a parade of giant robots march down the streets and beat the crap out of each other. Next, we have "Autobots Roll Out" (20 minutes) and "Decepticons Strike" (14 minutes). We learn here that 'Transformers' forced new advancements in the art of CGI rendering -- apparently the multitude of working parts of the robots and the need to create photo-realistic textures proved to be an incredibly complex undertaking.
