Description

With over 100 worldwide awards, this American style IPA has a complexity of flavours created by a six-dimensional hop experience. The Lord Marples beer was born - a 4% traditional bitter - named after one of the previous occupants of Thornbridge Hall.

As a result, Jaipur has been the subject of more than one loving treatment, and Jonny Garrett’s recent Good Beer Hunting piece is the best. Not overpowering with fruit flavours some but well balanced and smooth maybe zesty lemongrass flavor and pine with a low to medium bitterness level. The problem was that as the youthful founders of CAMRA aged, the organization began to resemble a religious organization devoted to a very specific dogma of “live” ale. Whilst we endeavour to make sure that glass bottles are packed as well as possible we cannot send out replacement for any breakages. Pale gold with a firm white head, it had all the contained vibrancy you want in a great pint of cask ale.Yet by the early aughts, cask had taken on the image of the kind of beer your grandpa drinks in merry olde pubs that were shrines to nostalgia. Marble gets a lot of credit, too, sticking largely with the British playbook but adding ever more hop saturation.

While within the beer bubble attention moves so quickly from one beer, one brewery, or one trend to the next, outside it people move much more slowly. For Lovatt and his team, the skill in making IPA is in the blend of hops—finding unique character within varieties and between them, rather than relying on one or two big-hitters and using those hops as marketing tools. Thornbridge became an example of how to translate the American craft brewery model to Britain, and in the years since its founding, that model has exploded.

You could see their footprint in the use of Maris Otter malts for rich sweetness, and in heavy doses of hops like Chinook and Simcoe. It was an important moment in British brewing, as a new generation of beer drinkers found these breweries exciting in a way traditional ale breweries weren’t.
