Now making making a poncho, that shouldn't be too hard, but of course as always with costuming there are some hidden complications.

Step 4: For the collar, cut out 2 donut shapes. (I used a child’s circle skirt pattern as my guide.) This will give you 2 layers to the collar -- an upper and lower layer. Sew the two layers together at the outside of the circles. Step 4: For the collar, draw a partial rainbow shape and cut it out to use as your pattern. Pin the shape onto the pleather fabric and then cut out the collar. Cut 2 pieces and then sew the right sides together. Sew all around the outside of the collars and leave a small opening. Turn collar right-side out and then hand-stitch the opening closed. Find the middle of the collar and pin it to the middle of the cape. Pin it all the way around the collar and then sew it to the cape. The rebellious Leia rose from an orphaned prisoner to a courageous space general and it is a beautiful and interesting journey. This step is much easier said than done, and was by far the hardest part of this DIY No Sew Easy Princess Leia costume. I admit I literally sweated a bit during this stage, until I realized that no one was going to see a slightly crooked or rumpled seam.

This is the gold-colored metal bikini Leia wore while imprisoned by Jabba the Hutt in “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.”. It is also called the Slave Leia Costume. The metal bikini is worn with a braid. I mean look at how well my Tunic blends in. Those pesky Storm Troopers will never be able to find me. And if they do I know a cute Ewok who would be more than happy to help me out. Since I've seen that this topic is one of the most viewed I would like to make a public announcement. This white gown is prominently featured during her appearance on the planet Tatooine, where she is held captive by Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire. This gown has since become one of the most recognizable and memorable costumes in the Star Wars saga. Though I was born and raised in New York City, I've lived in SoCal for over ten years now and am proud to call this beautiful and diverse place my home. My husband and I have a son and baby daughter (whom I was 9 months pregnant with when this photo was taken!). Prior to becoming a mommy I spent several years in feature film publicity and acquisitions for Miramax and later as the Creative Executive for Hilary Swank Productions before seguing to the music industry where I did Online Communications for the GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares. In my ample pre-parenthood free time, I also freelanced as a script analyst and screenwriter.

Step 6: Cut holes on the top and bottom of the ball droid. For the top, measure the width around your child’s chest and cut a hole slighter larger than that measurement. For the bottom, the hole should be wide enough so your child has enough leg room to walk.

Again I laid down and had my husband fold the fabric to just above my ankles. If you want to make a hem here then be sure to cut it a bit longer than the desired final length. Going with my philosophy of not sweating the small stuff too much in making this costume, I decided it’d take me less time to cut the bottom carefully, than hem it up with tape. Ditto with the arm length, which I finalized before taping the inside seams so that I wouldn’t have to do one bit of extra work with the fabric tape. And since I only plan to wear this Halloween costume a couple times and mostly in the dark, I didn’t think anyone would notice (and in fact, no one has). Tape the arms and sides together This costume is often referenced and recognized as a significant part of Leia’s character arc in “Return of the Jedi”. It has become a symbol of her role as a strong and resilient leader within the Rebel Alliance. Poncho has 2 slit openings in the front at the natural body line to allow the belt to pass through the front of the poncho. There is at least another 8” / 20 cm of fabric from the slit to the edge of the poncho. This gown is worn by Princess Leia Organa when she is aboard the Rebel Alliance’s medical frigate after the Battle of Hoth. The gown is predominantly white with a high collar, reflecting the medical staff’s attire on the frigate. Leia wears this gown while recovering from injuries sustained during the battle.
