Description

Due to the harsh and punitive Tenpō-era reforms which attempted to impose a strictly defined morality, prints of celebrity actors, courtesans, and entertainers were outlawed during this time. Crafted to outwit the artistic restrictions imposed by the reforms, the woodcuts in the Parallel Series became popular visual puzzles that were frequently reproduced. Because of the ingenious approach to the Tōkaidō theme, the Tōkaidō gojūsan tsui has been praised as one of the most innovative and important works from the late Edo period. Its three designers followed their individual interests and strengths, and yet shared a common composition—dominant figures against distant landscapes. They used a variety of motifs, including stories from kabuki theater, poetry, famous tales, legends, landmarks, and local specialties. [9] Time will be your best means to remain clear-sighted, methodical, and patient so that you don't miss anything on this unique route but instead can fully savor the experience the Tokaido has to offer!

The Tōkaidō road ( 東海道, Tōkaidō, [to̞ːka̠ido̞ː]), which roughly means "eastern sea route," was the most important of the Five Routes of the Edo period in Japan, connecting Kyoto to Edo (modern-day Tokyo). Unlike the inland and less heavily travelled Nakasendō, the Tōkaidō travelled along the sea coast of eastern Honshū, hence the route's name. [2] The additional components allow you to take an alternative action at each location (you can still take the standard action). These actions are more advanced, and potentially offer higher rewards, but also higher risks. For instance, you can gamble how much money to receive at a farm, you can buy legendary items at a souvenir shop, amulets (that can be used later for certain bonuses) at temples, etc. Great for All Ages: Tokaido’s accessible rules and serene pace make it suitable for players of all ages and skill levels. It’s the perfect game for family gatherings, casual gaming nights, or quiet moments of reflection.

Reviews

While Tokaido is suitable for 2-5 players, many people have noted that the game can feel different depending on how many people are involved. Fewer players make to a gentle, calm game, while the detail on the board can mean that five players get confused or accidentally nudge pieces to the wrong spot. Skill – Complexity (Light – Medium)

Unfortunately, there’s a bit of an imbalance among them. As your influence on the game is limited, tourists with universally useful abilities (like the aforementioned meal discount) are better than specialized ones, which usually also start with a lot less money. In Tokaido, each player is a traveler crossing the "East sea road", one of the most magnificent roads of Japan. While traveling, you will meet people, taste fine meals, collect beautiful items, discover great panoramas, and visit temples and wild places but at the end of the day, when everyone has arrived at the end of the road you'll have to be the most initiated traveler – which means that you'll have to be the one who discovered the most interesting and varied things. Special Anniversary Content: This edition includes exclusive anniversary content, such as new traveler characters, additional panoramic view cards, and unique player mats that add depth and variety to your Tokaido adventures. Play anywhere, solo, with two, or with the whole world -------------------------------------------- In the early 1980s, inspired by Hiroshige, American artist Bill Zacha travelled the Tokaido stations. He created a series of 55 serigraphs, each depicting one stop along the Tokaido way, and printed 100 copies of each design. These were collected in the 1985 book Tokaido Journey, along with Zacha's recollections (in both English and Japanese) of travelling the road and the people he encountered. [10]In today’s society, where life can be hectic, it can be difficult to remember to stop and smell the roses. Whilst there is no active rose smelling in this game, Tokaido is a game that embraces this principle. Tokaido Overview During the game, the players may use the ability on their traveler tiles whenever appropriate. These abilities include: discounts on the costs of various cards, extra points for taking certain actions, and other rules-breaking abilities.

B00LM4APAI (full series of Hiroshige prints and selection of Tokaido haiku from Matsuo Basho).Once all the travellers have reached Edo, the game is over. However, there are several bonus cards that can change the overall outcome of the game. These award bonus points for anything from being the first player to complete a panorama, to spending the most money on meals at the inn. Final Thoughts on Tokaido Souvenir shop allows you to buy up to three souvenirs. There are plenty available, separated into 4 sorts trinkets, clothing, art, or cuisine. Sets and diversity are awarded with victory points.
