Description

As with many native 1080p projectors, image quality with 4K HDR material was disappointing. The Elfin accepted and downconverted the 4K HDR input well enough, but the image showed a green bias and low overall brightness. It also lost more shadow detail than with SDR input, and when using the same 90-inch diagonal image size I used for 1080p SDR viewing, even a low level of ambient light completely washed out the HDR image in dark scenes. Given the choice, it's better to limit the input to SDR only. When the Intelligent Screen Alignment feature is enabled, Elfin will automatically adjust the projected image to match a 16:9 or 16:10 screen size. Please install "MagiCast"app from Google Play Store or Desktop Manager app, it's a XGIMI self-developed tool

The XGIMI Elfin also offers one HDMI port for external connections, making screen mirroring much easier for daily usage. Many projectors are a pain to set up and adjust the angle for the wall you’re projecting on, but XGIMI makes the job easy. Every time the projector turns on or is moved, it runs through its auto-configuration. Settings shortcut: access/adjust settings for 3D video setup, image quality, sound output, Keystone Correction, and more.

Aside from its dual-band 2.4/5Ghz Wi-Fi, which allows its smart function and Chromecast mirroring to work, the Xgimi Elfin also comes with Bluetooth 5.0. That comes in handy if you want to connect it with a Bluetooth speaker or a pair of wireless headphones. In fact, I rely on its Bluetooth when I’m watching TV late at night with my bedroom window open. I simply connect it with my Bose 700 and it can be as loud as I want it without me worrying about it disturbing my neighbors.

Inside the Elfin is a 0.33-inch Full HD DLP chip. As well as displaying flat Full HD, the projector can display HDR10+, even accepting a 4K input that’s downscaled to the projector’s native resolution. Press the “Return” and “Home” buttons on the remote control simultaneously until the indicator light begins flashing. This means that the remote control has entered pairing mode. Using the Society for Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) standards, 800 ANSI lumens is bright enough for a 130-inch 16:9 image in a dark room using a 1.0 gain screen. In my tests, using Standard power mode and Movie picture mode, which deliver lower brightness than the Elfin's maximum, the image was easily bright enough to light up my 90-inch screen in the dark and in low levels of ambient light. In a family room with lots of windows, it was suitably bright to fill an 80-inch screen in moderate ambient light at night and remain watchable—if somewhat washed out—on a bright afternoon. The XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro and Elfin projectors are both very similar, and both have a lot of overlap in the kinds of people they would be best suited for. Although it looks pretty basic, it has everything you need, including a button to activate the Google Assistant, letting you use voice control with the projector, an essential feature for those of us too lazy to type the name of the movie you want to watch. You can see from the images above that even at 90-inches, it’s difficult to see the individual pixels of the image unless you are right up against it. From a normal viewing distance, this image size still looks spectacular. Please connect the external device to the HDMI port, then follow the steps below to complete the setup: You get a bit of control over the image to improve matters, with modes for films and games, plus a custom mode that lets you adjust contrast and brightness. You can also adjust the motion smoothing, although since the projector runs at 60Hz, the technology isn’t so intrusive here.

Xgimi Elfin review: also consider The XGIMI Elfin is quite a bit smaller than the 4K XGIMI Horizon Pro projector, and noticeably lighter at just two pounds. Photo: Andrew Liszewski - Gizmodo Image quality and brightness is very impressive overall, and even the sound is good enough for casual use. With Elfin, you’ll never feel frustrated by a slow or complex setup. Simply plug it in, power it on rapidly with our fast boot function, and let the Intelligent Screen Adaptation (ISA) technology perfectly adjust your display in seconds.

Fortunately, it’s still easier to overlook when you keep the picture smaller. We notice it plainly when the display is stretched upwards of 80 inches, but it will hide better if your aim is a more TV-like 50- or 60-inch projection. Despite the differing brightnesses of 400 ISO Lumens for the MoGo 2 Pro nad 800 ANSI Lumens for the Elfin, in practice both projectors are similarly bright.
