Description

We recommend using either a raw linseed oil or teak oil for rosewood. This type of oil can enhance the strong colours of rosewood surfaces and furniture. The Gloss version of Hard Wax Oil will build to a bright gloss finish after 2–3 coats. Rub down lightly between coats with a fine abrasive. Once hard dry (allow at least 24 hours) it can be brought to an even brighter shine using either the Buffing Wheel System or Burnishing Cream. When finishing teak, we recommend using specialised teak oil. Teak oil is not made out of teak. The oil is generally a mixture of linseed oil, varnish, mineral spirits and sometimes tung oil. All oils are suitable for use on woodturning projects and the one you chose should be based on the desired look and finish you want. Toys – Danish Oil

Find sources: "Finishing oil"– news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR ( September 2014) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) Ensure the surface is bare: remove any wax finishes with Liberon Wax and Polish Remover and any varnish finishes with Liberon Fine Wood Stripper. Clean, dry and ensure the surface is dust free. If required stain the wood with Liberon Palette Wood Dye before oiling. We would recommend using either danish oil or teak oil for ash. These oil finishes will help keep the natural blonde colour of ash. However, when exposed to excessive UV light, the wood can yellow slightly causing darker tones in the grain. To avoid this, some users will bleach the wood prior to oiling.Surfaces may be cleaned using a damp cloth and spills should be wiped up immediately. For stubborn stains a mild detergent can be used. Surfaces need to be re-oiled once a year or more, depending upon usage. It can be used on bare wood or over previously painted surfaces. No additional top coat is required – it is highly durable as is. If you’re looking for added durability, applying a coat of Natural will increase sheen and durability without intensifying your colour. If you would like an oil finish on a piece of mahogany, we recommend using tung oil, linseed oil or teak oil. These oil options are great for interior use, and will not leave a glassy sheen on the mahogany. Oil finishes bring out the natural colours of timber. A wet surface will be an indication of the final colour. Always test product on a spare surface or inconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end result.

If required, wood can be stained prior to oiling with Liberon Palette Wood Dye, or an alternative wood stain. As always, make sure you’re starting with a clean surface. For wood applications, we do recommend you at least scuff sand, if not sand down to raw wood. A finish with 220 grit is a great way to prepare raw wood for SFO. For an even application, ensure that the surface is sanded evenly with the same grit. Add more coats! You can recoat in about 6 hours. If you’re satisfied with the colour but want more sheen, add another coat of Natural. If you’re not satisfied with the level of protection you have, what you can do is either add another coat of SFO in Natural. Also known as china wood oil, Tung oil is a clear plastic coating used in printing inks and oil paints. This type of oil can be weakened with a hydrocarbon thinner, which enables the oil to penetrate the finest grain woods. When applied in several thin coats, Tung oil can produce a satin ‘wetted wood’ look with a golden tint. Our recommended choice is Liberon Pure Tung Oil. Yes definitely! For this application, we suggest brushing or wiping on and immediately removing the excess. It works well as a glaze or to add a beautiful sheen over the paint. Please be aware that the SFO, like all oil-based products, does yellow over time, and this will show up more dominantly over a white base.

Here you can find everything you need to know about wood oils, from the different types available to the best suited wood oil for your wood.

All of our oils are suitable for furniture and the one you chose should depend on what the furniture is used for. For tables or items of furniture you’ll use regularly you should choose a hard wearing oil like Danish Oil, which will also offer stain and liquid protection. For all other items you could just select the oil that best suits your desired look and finish. Woodturning – Any Oil If you have natural hair or extremely dry hair, a hair oil that actually works to add moisture to your strands can be a complete game-changer. This one has an almost perfect rating at Ulta, and it’s easy to understand why. It can be used on the lengths of your hair like a traditional hair oil, on wet or dry strands, or as the brand says, for the skin too.

Always use gentle soap for cleaning oiled wood, no degreasing products like dish soap. Renew the oil with a very light additional coat every year or 2 years depending on the use of the surface. It is important to stay within two coats of SFO, as the wood is saturated after two coats, and the additional coats will dry on the surface, and it is this residue that can create watermarks.

Wood Oil Finish based on application

This product has been loved by stylists for quite some time, and we can totally understand why. The silky texture glides through the hair with ease, leaving it looking and feeling softer and more lustrous. This stain is highly concentrated in pigment, so a little goes a long way – the small can of SFO that we sell goes just as far as the big cans of other brands. We use as little solvent as possible to reduce our VOC levels and reduce the odour of the product. We use many different natural oils to condition and protect the wood that it is applied to. Ensure the wood is bare with no previous finish and is clean, dry and dust free. Remove any wax finishes with Liberon Wax and Polish Remover and any varnish finishes with Liberon Fine Wood Stripper. Mineral oil is a good choice for wooden cutting surfaces such as chopping boards since it is a nontoxic oil. To give the wood a more water-resistant finish, we recommend using beeswax as a seal.
