It is also worth pointing out that in those other sets the recurring characters have different prints, so if you want to collect them all you may have to spend quite a bit of money one way or the other even if the general design is always similar. Considering it’s built with LEGO bricks, we can’t complain, but it does make me wonder if there’s another way to make the head seem a bit more smooth. Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places.

Speaking of Minion facial parts, this set also includes three printed panels, each with a different expression. The build process feels rather convoluted and involved for something that looks so simple and the much-touted conversion from one character to another leaves a lot to be desired in terms of user friendliness not to speak of the fact that in doing so LEGO missed the opportunity to create a “Build any Minion you want” kit. That’s why we essentially know squat about the exact story at this point and will have to judge this just on how well it captures some generics from previous movies. There are a few more exposed studs at the top of his head, where you’ll also find a new black version of the plant stalk as hair. These are also parts that might be hard to re-purpose, but I’m glad they didn’t go with stickers here.

It features brick-built versions of Kevin and Stuart, which open to reveal detailed room playsets, and can rebuild Kevin into Bob, with various accessories.

So I photographed him here without it, as I was feeling generous, and as it looks pretty stupid with it. So let’s see if the LEGO Minions Brick-built Minions and their Lair ( 75551) would be worth your time and money. On the surface, they look like large-scale display pieces but have a peek around the back and you’ll notice you can open them up to reveal a hidden room. Each LEGO Minions set encourages creative fun as children role-play scenes from the Minions: The Rise of Gru movie. One thing that doesn’t quite work with this build is the torso and head of the Minion is not even with the top part of the head. Kevin is over 5” (15cm) tall, Stuart is 5” (14cm) tall and Bob is 4” (12cm) tall, making them ideal for play and display. also the large knob in the middle to rotate the eye feels a bit superfluous, given that you can rotate it manually by grabbing it just fine.
