My favorite feature is the ease with which you initially assemble the edger using just your hands and a Phillips head screwdriver. One screw? I’ve got this! A lot to love about the WG184. Worx has a funny way of making products that are super intuitive to use that somehow other brands aren’t doing. Not much else to say about the durability. It is a relatively simple machine. One thing I will say about the life of this trimmer is that it doesn’t appear to have a brushless motor. Sadly, brushed motors aren’t as durable or long-lasting as brushless motors, which have become the dominant motor type for battery-powered trimmers.

Cutting head. The cutting head is the most important feature on a strimmer. It should be adjustable, so you can change the angle of the cut to cope with inclines and fiddly jobs. In most models, the head turns 90°, so you can trim along the edges of paths and flowerbeds. In the very best models, the cutting head also has wheels to help guide along edges and support the weight of the strimmer. Key specs – Power: 2x 20V 2.0Ah MAX Li-ion battery; Cutting width: 33cm; Line: 2mm; Dimensions (stored): 125 x 28 x 14.5cm; Weight: 3.9kg Straps and safety harnesses. A shoulder strap or safety harness is an excellent bonus feature. It takes some of the weight of the tool, making it more comfortable to use, and also helps balance it, for better manoeuvrability and a more precise cut. The battery takes a couple of hours to charge and provides around 25 to 30 minutes of active service, although you could stretch that out a little further by avoiding Turbo mode. However, indicators on the membrane button control panel give you some idea when you’re running low. It’s a little heavier and harder on the shoulders than some models, but it’s also more solidly built than most trimmers at this price. All in all, it’s a good choice for mid-sized gardens and, with the battery and charger included, excellent value. That’s a fun activity, and you may find yourself indulging in unnecessary revving the first couple times you use the WG184. I know I did! Pros and Cons Instead of providing a Low/Hi gearbox, Worx gives you a variable speed trigger. We don’t mind having variable speed on a trimmer, but a low-speed gear typically does better to conserve battery run-time.

The most unusual feature (though not for Worx) involves pushbutton conversion from trimming to wheeled edging. Here I am going to give my honest thoughts about the WG184. For starters, I don’t like that it doesn’t have a brushless motor like most of EGO and Greenworks’ products. But that’s about the only thing I’m not in love with. Can your trimmer do this? (no). Also, that extensive, 13-inch safety guard enhances the reach of the WG184, allowing it to cut in a 13-inch circle without tossing debris into the air. The WG184 also includes a set of detachable edger wheels. They clip on to the main rod of the trimmer easily, making it possible to stand upright and cut a straight edge while you roll the trimmer down a hard surface next to the vegetation you’re trimming. Electric corded strimmers. Corded strimmers use a power cable connected to mains electricity. Depending on the length of the cable, these strimmers are more suitable for smaller gardens, but you can expand their reach with an extension lead. They’re also more dangerous than cordless strimmers because you run the risk of accidentally cutting the cable. Most cordless strimmers use an 18V-20V battery with a 2Ah to 2.5Ah capacity, which will generally last for around 20 to 30 minutes of use. However, some will also work with other batteries in the same battery ecosystem, giving you the option of a 4Ah or 5Ah battery and a longer running time, albeit with a bit more weight.

Two, three, or four green lights illuminated– The two batteries have a remaining charge. The more lights illuminated, the more battery capacity is available And when I mentioned this model on a Zoom call with my six adult siblings, we all agreed that the interchangeable Power Share batteries were just the kind of practical touch a frugal family like ours can really appreciate. Key specs – Power: 18V 2.0Ah Li-ion battery; Cutting width: 25cm; Line: 1.6mm; Dimensions (stored): 132 x 25 x 29m; Weight: 2.2kg

Need to trim and shape your lawn or deal with areas your mower can’t reach? The best cordless grass trimmers make it easy

Lower consumption and drastically reduced operating costs compared to petrol engine models (great cutting results with minimal power required). Moreover, the operator won’t have to refuel (the fuel should always be fresh). Line feed and blade replacements. It’s useful if a blade strimmer comes with spare blades, so you don’t run out if one breaks in the middle of a job. You should be able to get a new spool of line for a line strimmer or replace the whole head. With both types it's helpful if the spare blades or line can be stored on the tool. Indicator lights on the charger flash green while charging is in progress, rest on green when the batteries reach 100 percent, or flash red to indicate that one or both batteries are defective. Switching battery platforms is a hassle – and sometimes, an expensive one. But now, you don’t have to switch. The new 40V Power Share™ platform is the solution you’ve been looking for. We’ve expanded our 20V Power Share battery platform to include products that use 2 of the 20V batteries you already have to level up your power to 40V performance without switching to a new voltage family. Double up your batteries for more power and runtime and still share your batteries with the rest of the 20V WORX Power Share family. We’ve even introduced a dual-port charger to help you power up faster than ever before. Worx has been slowly revamping its 20V line of outdoor power tools with new 40V power supplies. Rather than create a third battery platform (see the Worx 56V string trimmer as an example), the company is taking a cue from Makita 18V X2 tools. The new Worx 40V Trimmer Edger Power Share system uses two 20V 2.0 Ah batteries. The included batteries run in parallel to give the Worx WG184 40 volts of cutting power.
