Description

Fluval Stratum's inherent properties will help support a neutral to slightly acidic pH, ideal for most plant species and species of tropical fish or shrimp normally kept in planted aquariums. Fluval Stratum also provides newborn shrimp with a refuge, allowing them to escape predators until they are large enough to emerge. This highly attractive substrate will not discolour water and helps control organic discolouration usually present when natural driftwood is used. The popular belief regarding aquarium gravel with cory catfish is that is causes cory catfish barbels to erode and die off.

Have a good filtration system – Once the tank is filled, you will notice that the water is still cloudy. This is normal whenever using Fluval stratum, despite all your efforts to avoid the issue. However, there’s nothing you can do at this point. Instead, you should allow the filtration system to do the work for you. The filter will remove the floating particles, clearing the water fairly fast in the process.Sand may be the best substrate for cory catfish, but not all types of sand are a good choice for cory catfish. Some types of sand tend to silt up causing no-oxygen zones which kill plants and cause a rotting bottom. There are also types of sand that have a lot of calcium in them, causing a pH spike. Although Fluval Stratum can provide some pores as a hideout for cherry shrimps against any kinds of dangers for them, it is not advisable to be used for these little creatures.

No, you do not need root tabs with Fluval Stratum. They are not required but having them will provide additional benefits to your plants. Now comes the really intriguing question – should you vacuum your Fluval stratum? The answer is negative. As we’ve mentioned, Fluval stratum consists of fragile pellets that are prone to destruction when agitated. A filtration system will simply act as a violent stirring mechanism, breaking all the pellets and creating more problems than you need.

Plant roots easily penetrate and spread throughout the substrate, allowing plants to obtain a variety of key, readily available nutrients that will make them flourish. The addition of Fluval Plant Micro Nutrients to Fluval Stratum will ensure a full compliment of essential macro and micro nutrients. The subtrate's light, non compacting, porous structure is also highly beneficial to nitrifying bacteria, which rapidly colonize the vast porous surface, providing optimal water quality for fish.

But what happens when the cleaning process is more difficult than you would expect or when the Fluval stratum makes the water muddy? That’s exactly what we will discuss today. Do You Have to Rinse Fluval Stratum? Concerning the desired depth, it can vary from 1 to 4 inches (2.5 to 10 cm) depending on the scale of the aquarium and the needs of the plants. If you are planning on a large slope of substrate, you will have to visualize where the midpoint of this slope will be and make that point an estimated depth. I have an average depth of around 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in our Fluval Spec V Aquarium. I use Fluval Statum in my 180litre tank. Can't remember how much but far far more bags full than I initially anticipated/calculated.

How to Clean Fluval Stratum?

If left uncleaned, these particles will cloud up your aquarium and make it difficult for both you and your fish to see clearly inside of it. How to Use Fluval Stratum for Plants? The only circumstance that requires you to wash the Fluval stratum would be in the case of poor handling during transportation. With a good filtration system in place and after performing a thorough cleaning, your Fluval stratum should settle completely within 24 hours. When considering the use of Fluval Stratum as a substrate for your aquarium, one of the most important questions to ask is whether or not it needs to be rinsed. The answer is yes, and there are several reasons why this is important. First of all, Fluval Stratum has an alkaline pH level that can be harmful to fish if left unrinsed.
