I love how original and unique this book is! The writing style is so cool and I really like how the timeline is set up. They join the Alliance of Free Witches and Nathan is sent to try and recruit his father, which he is able to do after spending a week with him. When they return they move to a forest and the war begins. The book is so diverse, it's mind blowing. Also, sexuality is like a normal thing in this book? No one needed to reveal anything or come out of whatever they're imaginary inside, it's just is, no big deal. As simple as what colour your eyes are. As simple as it should be to be honest. Even prior to its publication people drew comparisons to The Hunger Games, [5] Harry Potter or the Twilight series. Half Bad has also been compared to Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell. [6] Gabriel: Gabriel is Nathan's actual husband. When they first met Nathan was a bit unsure of him but they grew to be very close. Gabriel has expressed romantic attraction to Nathan and while Nathan did kiss him once he doesn't return Gabriel's feelings. After Annalise's betrayal, however, he eventually finds himself feeling the same way Gabriel feels about him. They grow very close through Half Lost to the point where Nathan gives him his father's ring. After Gabriel dies Nathan uses his shapeshifting ability to turn into a tree on top of his grave.

When I came up with the idea for HALF BAD I did think it would be a trilogy from the start. This was well before I had an ag …more Hi Justine, Good question. So while I moderately enjoyed this book, it didn't blow me away or leave me with a big impression, as stated before I kept getting distracted from it. The book was fine though, the story was good, the characters were decent, the pace was good, overall though just not the kind of book for me. I didn't get hugely into it. The ending was fine, and for me it just feels like a pretty satisfying ending that can stay where it is, with something that leaves the reader guessing, kind of like a short story. This book was alright, but not great. Just not my kind of book is all. That's it. To prepare him for an eventual showdown with his father, Ceelia coaches Nathan on his fighting skills. Jessica makes an enemy during cadet training. The main character Nathan is great, he is just a fighter and never gives up. He goes through some absolutely terrible things, but he always has hope and keeps control of his mind. His journey is so intriguing and interesting, I just had to keep reading to know more. When I came up with the idea for HALF BAD I did think it would be a trilogy from the start. This was well before I had an agent or a publishing deal. I can't really comment on what publishers or marketing departments want except that, as far as I can see, they want great books whether as stand-alones, trilogies or a series of seven-plus books.

There are many of this kind of episode happening in the book, where he would suddenly become so angry he would throw things around and he would shout and he would go all angsty in his head and I'm like, "...Man, I'm drained from reading this shit." He goes to the council for yearly assessments, where he is questioned about the father he's never met

When he was 14 a notification was issued that stated he had to be taken by Celia, his new 'teacher and guardian' and raised away from his family. He lived in an outdoor cage for two years, and was assessed regularly, but was taken to London two months before his 17th birthday. It was during the time in his cage that his Gran commits suicide after the council pressured her to do so.Set in modern-day Europe, the second book in the Half Bad trilogy is more than a story about witches. It’s a heart-poundingly visceral look at survival and exploitation, the nature of good and evil, and the risks we take for love. It gets pretty ridiculous with the amount of rules place on a child, but the Council has their prejudices, and it's clear they don't plan to let up. Nathan, who's only freedom included traveling to Wales every once in a while, refuses to ask permission for travel. Yet, his half-brother (a white witch), who genuinely cares about him, begs him to reconsider. That scene was one of the saddest in the book for me. The Alliance is losing. Their most critical weapon, seventeen-year-old witch Nathan Brynn, has killed fifty-two people, and yet he’s no closer to ending the tyrannical, abusive rule of the Council of Witches in England. Nor is Nathan any closer to his personal goal: getting revenge on Annalise, the girl he once loved, before she committed an unthinkable crime. There is an amulet, protected by the extremely powerful witch Ledger, which could be the tool Nathan needs to save himself and the Alliance. But the amulet is not so easily acquired. And lately Nathan has started to suffer from visions: a vision of a golden moment when he dies, and of an endless line of Hunters, impossible to overcome. Gabriel, his closest companion, encourages Nathan to run away with him, to start a peaceful life together. But even Gabriel’s love may not be enough to save Nathan from this war, or from the person he has become. I can’t tell you how grateful I am! Let’s always find the positives, and remember sometimes the bad times are the good times xx”
