Description

Ssilkashla, a female Yuan-Ti Abomination attempting to become a Yuan-Ti Anathema (see area 20). Ssilkashla is ambitious, cold, and arrogant, in essence the ideal Yuan-Ti. She considers herself far above any “lesser” race, and is certain to tell them as much before swiftly disposing of them. If she ascends to become an Anathema, her arrogance will match her might. She will swiftly assert herself as a dominant force in Yuan-Ti politics, believing it her destiny to become the God-Empress of a new empire. Four large columns support the ceiling, carved to resemble coiling snakes. A tiled mosaic along the floor leads to a bloodstained altar rests against the southern wall. The vaulted ceiling has carved reliefs of human sacrifice and giant snakes devouring villages. Blessed with resistance to magical and poisonous effects by the rituals that created them, each of these yuan-ti manifests their serpentine heritage in a variety of ways: a forked tongue, snake eyes, a snakelike nose, or some other ophidian characteristic. However a yuan-ti looks, they have the power to pursue great good or evil in the multiverse.

A yuan-ti abomination fighting to protect a place of importance will do so fanatically. If it’s seriously injured in that scenario, it won’t retreat but rather will fight to the death. If it’s accompanied by yuan-ti malisons and purebloods, and if they’re in a settlement or other location where reinforcements may be available, one or more of the yuan-ti abomination’s allies will break off when the abomination is moderately injured and run to fetch more. Size. Abominations stand about 5 feet tall when upright, but the total length of their bodies, head to tail, ranges from 10 to as much as 20 feet. Your size is Medium. Post-Ascension: All three of these chambers are occupied by Type 1 Yuan-Ti Malisons unless an event would have drawn their attention elsewhere in the complex. If combat breaks out in one of the chambers, the Yuan-Ti in the adjacent chambers move to join in the fight 1 round later. Ed Greenwood, Sean K. Reynolds, Skip Williams, Rob Heinsoo (June 2001). Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd edition. ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 103. ISBN 0-7869-1836-5. Chameleon Power: The yuan-ti can change the coloration of itself and its equipment to match its surroundings.Ed Greenwood, Eric L. Boyd, Darrin Drader (July 2004). Serpent Kingdoms. ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 9. ISBN 0-7869-3277-5. Lesser Divine Word (1/Day): As a bonus action, Ssilkashla can speak an incomplete word of power. Ssilkashla chooses any number of creatures she can see within 30 feet of her. Each target must make a DC 13 Charisma saving throw. If a the saving throw fails by 5 or more the creature is reduced to 0 hit points. Otherwise, a creature takes 16 (3d10) psychic damage on a failed save. There are two Type 1 Yuan-Ti Malisons priests in this room. The priests are in a trance-like state, kneeling on the ground before the pit (room 5). Their trance was induced by a strong concoction of hallucinogenic plants intended to bring the yuan-ti closer to the slumbering god Merrshaulk. The priests do not rouse from the sound of combat in adjoining rooms, but wake if they are damaged or if a creature uses its action to shake it awake.

There are only two reasons why a yuan-ti abomination would opt for fear over simply beating the tar out of its opponents: First, it’s protecting some kind of sacred or otherwise important place, and keeping trespassers away is its foremost priority. Second, its opponents are tougher than it bargained for, and it’s losing the fight. Female yuan-ti lay eggs in brood chambers, marking each clutch with its parentage, then abandoning them to the care of broodguards. Yuan-ti hatchlings are hatched from these eggs, which are always curious and eager to explore, and will seek food immediately, even eating each other if sustenance is not at hand. Their initial training is provided by broodguards, which also monitor the hatchery. Young yuan-ti are trained in the use of their powers almost after being born. They will turn into tiny vipers and slither to the nearest cover when they see danger or hear a warning. [22] Jason Kuhl (July/August 1998). “Slave Vats of the Yuan-ti”. In Christopher Perkins ed. Dungeon #69 ( Wizards of the Coast) (69)., p. 10. Age. Abominations mature at the same rate as humans and have lifespans similar in length to theirs. If all goes well, the yuan-ti may try to retreat with a fresh body or two (the unconscious PC and perhaps another with a well worded suggestion) to turn into a brood guard. The Yuan-Ti was reprinted and updated in Monsters of the Multiverse, where they dropped the term “pureblood”, they gained the new standard ability score mechanics, their poison immunity was reduced to resistance, and Magic Resistance now only applies to spells rather than spells and magical effects. Yuan-Ti Classes (Customizable Origins MMoM) Ed Greenwood, Sean K. Reynolds, Skip Williams, Rob Heinsoo (June 2001). Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd edition. ( Wizards of the Coast), p. 290. Treasure: Ssilkashla wears ornate golden ornamentation embedded into her scales. If carefully removed, their collective value is worth 1200 GP. She also wears a Ring of Mind Shielding.

Monster Statistics by Challenge Rating

The yuan-ti, despite their love of chaos, have a fairly rigid caste system with slaves at the bottom, with purebloods as ambassadors, builders, artisans, and spies, halfbloods as guardians, warriors, and enforcers, and abominations as the mystics, philosophers, generals, judges, and leaders of a yuan-ti nest. In general, the more serpentine features a yuan-ti possesses the higher its status in yuan-ti society. Abominations are at the top of their society, followed by halfblood, and finally purebloods. Within their subraces, yuan-ti are ranked by achievements and the demonstrated favor of Sseth. [18]

Broodguards, also known as histachii, are humans who have undergone the ritual of transformation but have been found unworthy, degenerating into hairless, near-mindless reptilian monsters. The yuan-ti employ these wretches as watchers over egg-broods and other demeaning tasks. They first appeared as the histachii in Dragon Magazine #151 ("The Ecology of the Yuan-ti" by David Wellham, 1989). She is wearing a ring of mind shielding, which makes her immune to magic that allows other creatures to read her thoughts, determine whether she is lying, or know her alignment or creature type. The ring is invisible. Natural Weapon. Your fanged maw is your natural, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, and your target must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Con modifier). On a failed save, the target takes 1d4 poison damage. Bite. You have sharp snake fangs, which are natural weapons you are proficient with. They deal 1d6 piercing and 2d4 poison damage, and have the finesse property.

The weight of a raw piece of meat is 4 pounds. And one slab of meat (4 lbs.), can be used to make 1 dried ration (2 lbs.). Yuan-ti were originally humans who transformed themselves into serpent folk through ancient rituals. Most yuan-ti were corrupted into monsters by those rites, but some yuan-ti instead became a new people who mix characteristics of humans and snakes. Gwendolyn F.M. Kestrel (July 2006).
