It would be awesome if Sonos introduced an updated Play:3 with a new look and new streaming capabilities. And, like the Five, the new "Three" would play stereo sound instead of immersive audio like the Era 300, which is still pretty niche. Press Play to compare the volume of two test sounds, A and B, and then select No Difference, A is louderor B is louder. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus that produce heat. There are very few markings of any kind on the speaker. The front panel has the Sonos logo, and the left panel houses a status light and Join button for joining a wireless network. There aren't a lot of features in the Sonos Sub Mini – it's just a subwoofer, after all! As you'd expect, it works wirelessly over Wi-Fi, and uses a fast and low-latency 5GHz connection to ensure it's as synced with your soundbar as possible, but there's also an Ethernet port for wired connectivity.

Its sound is not big – in fact, out of the box I'd say it's a little too restrained and polite – but it offers a level of bass extension that none of the Sonos soundbars can match on their own, so there's no question it offers a real improvement for them all. Attach the power cord and plug in Sub. Be sure to push the power cord firmly into Sub until it is flush with the surface. Sub is designed to sit on the floor. You can place it in a corner, against the wall, behind, under, or next to any piece of furniture on any kind of floor surface. Unfortunately, there have been few rumblings of Sonos releasing a new "Three" speaker, but given that the company is trending towards smaller speakers (with the Roam and Sub Mini), we aren't giving up all hope just yet. What Speakers Has Sonos Recently Released? Users are increasingly wondering what the release date of the Sonos Sub Gen 4 is, what the price will be at the beginning of sales, as well as what upgrades the company will offer in the new subwoofer. We haven’t seen Sonos Sub updates since 2020. We don’t have much information, but still have a lot to tell, so keep reading.Sonos is rumored to be working on a set of true wireless earbuds, too. A patent was discovered in February 2021 that showed a pair of wireless earbuds with a unique long-and-flat (wedge-shaped) design and a silicone eartip for fit. The Sub works with just about any Sonos speaker configuration, but we decided the most natural way to test it would be with a Sonos Beam soundbar. At the default volume level for the Sub (which is midway, or 0, on a scale of -15 to 15), the bass gets a notable increase—toggling between the Sub being on and off presents a striking contrast, though some listeners might still find it subtle. We found that a little extra boosting (say, levels 2 or 3) goes a long way when listening to music with serious sub-bass depth. For films, the levels seem most natural at roughly 0-5. Again, these findings are all when paired with the Sonos Beam, so depending on your setup—not to mention your room and personal tastes—your results will vary. Since then, there has been no official announcement from Sonos or any news or rumors about a release date for the new Sonos subwoofer. In terms better music performance, do you expect that Sub Mini can produce better and clearer music sound? I forgot to say that my room is around 20 sq.m. If you've gone to the trouble of adding a subwoofer to your setup, you're probably hoping for a pretty stand-out effect. For me, +5 added that, but without making the sound feel overly bassy in any way, or making me worry that it would travel through to the neighbors' house.

The app will calibrate the Sub's settings for you initially, walking you through a procedure that measures your room's particular acoustics and adjusts the Sub's output accordingly (you can skip this step if you wish). Within the app, you can adjust the Sub's settings. Other than simply turning the Sub on or off, you can adjust its volume level relative to the other speakers in the room, switch the Phase between 0 or 180 degrees, or adjust the crossover frequency. The default setting for crossover frequency (the frequency at which the speakers begin to cut off and the subwoofer begins to output audio) is 80Hz. But this can be adjusted anywhere between 50Hz-110Hz, and depending on your setup and room size, adjusting this parameter can make a huge difference in the overall sound signature. It's worth noting the Sub only works with other Sonos speakers, which isn't a huge surprise, but at this price, it's a bummer that it can't be used with the Sonos Amp. The Amp has a subwoofer connection that would be perfect for combining the Sub with a set of non-Sonos speakers, but it won't work. (You can use the Sub with the Amp if you are powering Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers, but that's the only way.) The Sub is a wireless speaker with no physical connections for a subwoofer output, and it can't work wirelessly with non-Sonos speakers that are physically connected to the Sonos Amp. At this price, that feels like a limitation that needn't exist. Performance When the Death Star explodes in Stars Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (spoiler alert), the Sub delivers solid extra depth at default levels, but for those who really crave thunder, older films like this can handle a higher level. The Death Star explosion really sounds huge at level 8, and this doesn't do much to upset the rest of the mix's balance. Many subwoofers are set-it-and-forget-it speakers with hard-to-reach knobs, but the Sonos app makes it easy to dial in your preferences for a variety of content. All filter settings, active equalization, and time alignment are done digitally through state-of-the-art DSP (Digital Signal Processing) circuitry for zero-loss audio quality and energy.

The Best Accessories for Your Sonos Speakers What Speakers Will Sonos Next Announce? The first Sonos headphones One 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port. You can plug a Sonos product directly into your router if your WiFi is unstable Two force-canceling speakers positioned face-to-face for deeper, richer sound and zero cabinet buzz or rattle. And it's very effective in our experience – it means the Sub Mini leaks minimal vibrations outside of the subwoofer itself. Huge bass won't rattle the walls, or travel through to next door (unless you really crank up the volume) – the subwoofer itself feels basically still even when in use.
