I did, as the author recommended, skip the parenting part, as I am not one, but I can imagine the method also working well there. I don't know about you, but I'm ready to race into 2016 with a little more concern and care for myself than the things around me. The company is renowned for being one of the fastest-growing publishers of self-help and transformational books and their products are sold in 35 countries around the world.Having said that, I feel like readers should be warned that the writing here could use the touch of a good editor.

It's about taking care of yourself and not giving a f*ck what people think of your choices (but without being an a**hole). Manson shows us all that things are fucked, no matter what you do they will not change and that pain is the universal constant and only those who face this reality, succeed in achieving a satisfactory life. Full of quick tips with big effects, with lines such as ‘Say Fuck It to being happy: just doing that will cheer you up no end’.Nothing can actually harm you, and once you ultimately realise that, you will never be scared of anything. It’s a wonderful and effective life philosophy (for me, anyway), but it’s truly not very complex— it definitely doesn’t require 200+ pages of explanation. Everyone wants you to believe that the secret to a good life is to have a nicer job or a better car or a prettier girlfriend.

I think what most people — especially educated, pampered middle-class white people — consider “life problems” are really just side effects of not having anything more important to worry about. Commitment, in its own way, offers a wealth of opportunity and experiences that would never otherwise be available to you, no matter how many surface level experiences you pursued. The more you embrace being uncertain and not knowing, the more comfortable you will feel in knowing what you don’t know. In the second part, Manson has used philosopher Immanuel Kant’s ideas to grow and improve ourselves.

Update: Made it through 20 more pages before I started laughing and threw it away😂 The guy started talking about a very on the surface account of polish suffering in WW2 and how it made them find happiness in the little things.

I didn't want the same thing to happen with the excitement and with the energy I felt after reading *F**k It* -- I didn't want to get burned out by overanaalzying, overthinking it.

I kinda liked the whole "fuck it" approach and the "prisons" we may find ourselves in but the book could be heavily edited for length. The book covers Manson's belief that life's struggles give it meaning and argues that typical self-help books offer meaningless positivity which is neither practical nor helpful, thus improperly approaching the problems many individuals face. The key to a good life is not giving a fuck about more; it’s giving a fuck about less, giving a fuck about only what is true and immediate and important. Having said Fuck It to a top job in London, he escaped to Italy to set up the retreat centre The Hill That Breathes, where he now teaches regular 'Fuck It Weeks' with his wife Gaia.
