It has sold over 8 million copies in the US and has been certified multi-platinum, platinum, or gold in 15 countries. previously released live recordings, titled Live Rarities 2003–2004; previously unreleased demos, titled Lost Demos; and three DVDs: the first disc feature the previously released The Making of Meteora and The Art of Meteora documentaries, along with a new documentary titled Work in Progress, while the second and third discs feature previously unreleased live performances from 2003 and 2004 respectively. The band worked in pairs during the writing process, whereas Shinoda was always involved in all the songs.

Before we did Meteora, I listened to "Hybrid Theory" and "Reanimation", and I was like, "Dude, I'm really proud of these records. I thought that my sound system isn't capable of playing such music but i've bought a better system recently and this record sounds even worse on it. It's a 36 minute long record, so I'l have to get up every 9 minutes to change the side - even though it perfectly fits on one record.

Meteora has sold around 16 million copies worldwide, making it the 8th best-selling album of the 21st century.

To support the album, there were many photo shoots of the band on October 29 at the Ambassador Hotel, where the band took a break from recording the album for two days, for designing the cover art of the album. Writing for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine described the album as "nothing more and nothing less than a Hybrid Theory part 2. Meteora received generally positive reviews, although critics noted that the album's musical style was similar to its predecessor, Hybrid Theory (2000).VINYL: Meteora, Live In Texas – the full concert released on vinyl for the first time, and Live in Nottingham 2003, an unreleased legendary live concert from March 2003. The promotion for the album began well ahead before its release, as pictures of the band recording were distributed to the media.

In 2014, Linkin Park released a demo version of Shinoda singing the song, on their 14th annual fan club CD, LPU XIV. Received my copy from Russia a few days ago - took about two weeks to arrive in total which was great.Mike and I are two different people, so we can't sing about the same things, but we both know about frustration and anger and loneliness and love and happiness, and we can relate on that level. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. Prior to releasing a second album, the band instead chose to release a remix album, Reanimation, in 2002, produced by band member Mike Shinoda. The record spawned a further run of big singles such as 'Breaking the Habit,''Somewhere I Belong', 'Faint' and 'Numb. Linkin Park played various special shows worldwide, including "Reading Ireland", as well as performing during the Kerrang!
