I guess you're right - I should go to get one done; I was hoping that I had a set of 'classic' symptoms that pointed to a specific problem, thus avoiding the hassle of taking it in just for a scan. It is my impression that EGR faultsnecessitating fullreplacement of the unit (not an easy job, see the EGR threads)are increasingly common among EA189 engines of a certain age and maturity. Codes I've been getting: P179A / P0235 / P0190 / P2291 not had a starting problem limp mode varies at engine start to 20 miles not been able to check injectors waiting for tool to arrive going out to start engine see if it comes on. Stop/start hasn’t worked since I started doing only short journeys, apart from immediately after charging up the battery. You should just be able to do it with a voltmeter (available cheaply if you haven't got one and useful for all sorts of stuff) hooked up as shown in the diagram.

Today after work I started the car and after a couple of minutes driving noticed the glow plug light was on.No other light comes on except glow plug flashes which is the engine management light on diesel models I believe. Codes given are for CAN feedback from the Turbo actuator, T-MAP Boost/temp sensor and Fuel rail pressure sensor issues, I'll take a look at the diagram and get back with some suggestions (if J-B does not get there first! I`ve just found something in the manual (I was looking for info on changing bulbs believe it or not) and it explains how to clear air from the system and stop the glow plug light flashing and guess what.

For info the car has done 49k miles in just under 5 years and I have owned from new and treated it well! Failing this, if you venture along to a social event, someone usually has VCDS and I'm sure will help you out. On the Briskoda Yeti Forum some were using a VAG DPF App, OBD plug, to monitor the state of the DPF. Will keep an eye out for the coil light, though if last time was anything to go by it’ll be very obvious as the car struggled to back up a slightly sloping driveway.it said it could be a number of things when it flashes, some of the syptoms that i have noticed as well are the car doesnt ahve much power, 1st gear is useless and even in 2nd,3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th the turbo is just lacking in power not sure if this is due to the car going into limp mode? Saturday still looking for loose /dirty connections what ever it is must have got worse as flashing glow plug light now every time I start the engine cant clear it engine warning constant also ABS but waiting for sensor for that . I have booked in to get car looked at and they assume glow plug failure, but has anyone else any advice on what it could be if not that please?

The other half picked it up from the garage on saturday, they have replaced a boost sensor in the exhaust?

If you fill out your profile with a more useful "location" then those who have access to VCDS in your area may be able to offer you some assistance.

There is no need to be so rude and abrupt in your reply, I'm sorry but i am quite new to the site and im not up to speed on the ways of the board. I have booked it in with Audi to have a retrofit cruise control fitted on Wednesday so hopefully they will sort out the system fault under warranty. Glow plug light and flashing and engine warning light on, serious lack of power which nearly lead to a bemma ploughing up the rocs arse end! S’pose the reasoning will be along the lines of we’ll single handedly kill off all the polar bears with the extra miles so best not give the driver that choice, it doesn’t matter that he’ll have to shell out for extra oil changes or maintenance. Yeah to echo what ppl have said, its usually an electrical fault to do with the Cruise/Traction conrol and Braking system.I came to a standstill and switched off the engine, and then restarted and drove 50 miles with no problem and no flashing light. most common fault however is faulty fuel injector, if its this fault the injectors are expensive €300 -€400 each but don't despair because there not too difficult to fit, its a job you could do yourself, just done some yesterday so if its injector fault let me know n ill run you through the process. Occassionally a problem kicks in where the car decides not to start - the engine warning light comes on and the glow plug light flashes, the car turns over fine, but won't fire. My oil temp got up to 106c then dropped off to 101c but no idea if that is normal as I don’t usually lock the gearbox in 5th.
