Confirming the move, a Diageo spokeswoman said it had undertaken a review of its beer portfolio and “taken the strategic decision to prioritise the main Guinness trademark in Great Britain”. The Guinness spin-off– which Diageolaunched in 2015 in a bid to cash in on the craft beer boom– has been delisted by its parent company and is set to disappear from supermarkets, pubs and bars. It will continue to be sold in Ireland, Northern Ireland and other markets. Hop House 13, a double-hopped lager brewed with barley, Guinness yeast, Australian Galaxy and Topaz hops, and American Mosaic hops was initially launched in Ireland in 2015 in a bid to cash in on the craft beer boom. Initially, the brand performed well and was soon also launched in other markets including the UK, where it became one of the fastest-growing beer brands.

The beer initially performed well and became one of the UK’s top-selling beer brands, buoyed by growing demand for posher brands and solid distribution in the mults. However, during the pandemic the brand suffered a lot and after a review of its beer portfolio Guinness has now “taken the strategic decision to prioritize the main Guinness trademark in Great Britain”, according to Diageo. Jai Singh, of MJ’s Go Local in Sheffield, said of the decision: “Hop House 13 was a good product for customers to try if they’re used to lager but wanted to transition to craft beer. We’re surprised by Diageo’s decision to delist the line as it’s popular in our store, and there isn’t anything on the market that quite compares.Guinness is going to discontinue its craft brand Hop House 13 in the UK, a spokeswoman of Diageo confirmed on Thursday. The brand will still be available in Ireland, Northern Ireland and other markets. Diageo has announced it’s delisting Hop House 13 in the UK in all supermarkets, pubs, bars and convenience stores. A Diageo spokesperson commented: “We have recently undertaken a review of our beer range and have taken the strategic decision to prioritise the main Guinness trademark in Great Britain and delist Hop House 13 lager. Hop House 13 was launched in 2015 following a successful trial in Ireland and aimed to help retailers target premium lager drinkers who were looking for an enhanced taste that lager offers. It had been “adifficult decision to make, but one that we believe is right for Guinness in the long term”, she added.
