After securing a client who unfortunately has an untimely death, he decides to "honor" his artwork (which primarily focuses on Antartica landscapes) by hosting a cruise where there will be an auction for his art. I found aspects of it to be intriguing, but then some of it began to feel repetitive as the McCulloch attempts to hold the hand of the reader to remind them of the significance of the death of the artist.

Combines an intricate murder mystery with lyrical passages describing ice cliffs and spectacular skies. I did guess the main twist, and there were aspects of it that didn't really ring true, but I enjoyed the ride getting there and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the unexpected turns along the way. Here, it was so distastefully done to the point where I felt that the author became bored with the storyline and realized they had no choice now but to wrap things up! A chilling, atmospheric rollercoaster of a read filled with clever unpredictable twists and beautiful imagery of Antarctica.

The location of the story sounded wonderful and the descriptions of the area approaching Antarctica were breathtaking! Well, to begin with, it was so very SLOW, and I had to force myself to continue reading and not simply DNF this one on more than a couple occasions!I would never, ever, go to Antartica but I feel such a great fascination for books and tv shows set there. The storyline for me, however, was very slow and whilst I enjoyed the beginning part of the story where it introduces us to Olivia and Aaron, I found, as the book moved on, I struggled to maintain my interest in their stories. The liked the cast of characters, although there were a few too many extras dipping in and out from the sidelines. So, a slight notch down from Breathless, but definitely worth reading for those who like their thrillers in remote locations. I was really rooting for Olivia to get answers and to find out who the person behind these events was.

I could appreciate the build of suspense and the way all the characters and their activities made for potential suspects, but I latched onto the correct villain nearly from the start and picked up on the motive as soon as I was given enough facts to piece it together. A lot of the plot also seemed to be related to the art business, whereas I was way more interested in Antarctica. Things start unravelling for our main character Olivia just seconds into the journey, when she realizes the ship left without Aaron on board.I found the whole book a little too slow for me to completely get into the story, but there were parts which were interesting. This was no different but what did set it apart are the lyrical descriptions of the voyage and landscape. She’s as shaky as it gets so one is meant to wonder if she’s an unreliable narrator or is someone toying with her as their next victim. Midnight has an exciting premise and unique setting that is unfortunately bogged down by a dimwitted main character and lackluster mystery. It's just a shame that the way it was executed was not one that I could have appreciated as much as I would have liked to, making for a rather disappointing read, instead.

This had so much potential especially it's a close environment where people are getting murdered, but it doesn't add anything new or interesting to the genre.I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that between her great fears, isolation, and mounting panic that she wasn’t firing on all cylinders. Aaron’s deceased client’s artwork will be showcased aboard the Vigil as a unique art auction at sea, and the night of his auction will take place during the phenomenon known as “midnight sun” where the sun doesn’t set. He’s arranging an installation of work by his star artist on board the ship, it’s really going to be something special.
