It must be bewildering for those who wish to explore the Tarot to decide which version to use. There are so many these days, and the wide variety of designs coming from the numerous spiritual or philosophical bases, makes it a hard choice. My advice would be to ask oneself whether it is the Classic Tarot that is desired, with its limitations and its complex images being borne by the Major Arcana alone. For some the historical significance gives the Classic Tarot a certain attractive quality that is characteristic of ancient documents such as the Bible, the Vedas, or even Chaucer. To work with a spiritual tool that is centuries old is to capture something of the mystical certainties of a different age. If a potential user of the Tarot does not seek to use the Classic version, then I would point that seeker to one of the versions of the Rider-Waite Tarot. For me it is not the rearrangement of some of the Major Arcana cards that is the significant factor, but the creation of different and distinct pictorial images for each of the Minor Arcana cards. This was a magnificent development and an approach by almost all the new Tarots ever since. The Minor cards are pretty brilliant, if you ask me. The re-coloring often does a good job of it to help bring out the different elements from within these images. I did however get bothered by the way the expressions of some of the people on the Court Cards got changed – the Queen of Wands for example! She is one of my fav Courts! Today, there is currently a phenomenal interest in Tarot fortune-telling cards. The serious investigator seeks to employ the cards as a means of placing the past into more meaningful perspective, understanding the present, and revealing the alternatives that exist in the future. Those less acquainted with Tarot cards are content to use them as a game and to indulge in readings at parties or in small private groups. From the collector’s standpoint, Tarot cards are both colorful and interesting. I've often wished for less harsh or stark coloring. In the Universal Waite Tarot, I've found happiness.

The Majors of the Universal Waite are simply stunning! Naturally, the images are the same as the Rider-Waite, but they are clearer and stuff in the cards is easier to see. And of course, from among the Cups suit, I love the 3 of Cups card. A celebration, a harvest and friends getting together to have fun! Who wouldn’t love this card, eh? ?

Other than that, the Majors of the Universal Waite present the journey of the Fool through his trials and tribulations, his awakenings and his understanding of the different levels of life and evolution. My favorite cards among the Majors are The Fool, The Magician, The High Priestess, The Chariot, The Hermit, Temperance, The Star, and The World. The Minors However, the book did contain some very interesting interpretations.
