Unboxing and assembling the Carbon EVO took about 15 minutes. While you may be thinking that someone who has reviewed audio gear for more than two decades would be faster than most, it was my 15-year-old son that did the unboxing and assembly.

owner, I have unboxed the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO noting the differences in design but reflecting that the two are similar in price and tactile operation, though they are an audio generation apart. From there, the Carbon Evo builds on the qualities of its more affordable brethren. The biggest gains are to be had in the soundstage and bass. Put succinctly, the Carbon Evo finds more space in the record and then proceeds to fill it more effectively. Without the low end ever sounding overcooked or dominating the performance, the Pro-Ject hits harder and goes deeper. Analogue bass is a function of engineering; it can’t be easily created any other way. The Carbon Evo is able to give much more of a hint as to what the high end of analogue is capable of at a fairly terrestrial price point.Pro-Ject includes a well-written manual and also a well-designed guide for the initial setup, something that we rarely find at this price point. So you claimed you are a "music lover" & "an analog guy". Please tell us how many LPs you own at home & what are yr favorite artists. Right from the beginning, the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon EVO was far better: more emotional and weighty, more living-and-breathing, more detailed, more dynamic, more spacious. Also much more engaging and resolute without any distraction of harshness. I’m particularly fussy, though, which shouldn’t be a surprise. So, in the spirit of that fuss, here are two small quibbles. First, Pro-Ject included a felt platter mat. I know, groans and eyerolls, lots of folks like felt, but I find it particularly abhorrent. I’ve just never liked felt, and this was no exception. Very minor thing, and easily remedied. Second, the power cord is strangely short. It barely reached my power receptacle, which was maybe four feet away. Again, this can be remedied with an aftermarket cord, but be aware of this, and reach out to your dealer or Pro-Ject to ensure that whatever cord you choose works fine. I am not a fan of the anti-skating weight design. The small weight attaches to a notched post on the tonearm by means of a short length of fishing line looped over a wire support. The loop at the end of the line slides over the post and is supposed to get caught in the middle notch. I found that making the loop smaller helped to secure it.

The ability to tie all the musical strands together and paint them on a precise and spacious canvas seems to come easy to the Rega, and in that aspect its delivery just works.Assuming you sit say 10th front row centre (my favourite concert seat), what channel separation YOU think you would get with a 100-person symphony orchestra all 'crowed' together on the stage. The Debut Carbon EVO features Pro-Ject's new designed motor suspension. Pro-Ject have improved the old design to consistently reduce the vibrations better than before. What impressed me the most was the easy setup. The Debut Carbon EVO took me under ten minutes to set up, and everything felt dialed-in and ready to go almost immediately.

Despite that nod to convenience, we think you’ll want to interact with this record player as much as possible. Having followed Pro-Ject’s Debut line for many years, we find there’s a real sense of it reaching adulthood with the new Debut Carbon Evo. Whether or not the Debut Carbon Evo is the best record player for you might be decided by whether you prefer its fuller, more relaxed character or the more spritely and lean alternative of its main competitor. Sound quality is always our main concern, so it’s still the Rega for us, but that’s a split, rather than an unanimous, decision. The answer to which is better for you will come from hearing both for yourself, but don’t let that frustrate you – you’ll be in the company of two of the best record players ever made at this price. This is a display of strength: with its construction quality and sonic characteristics, it‘s the new reference in this price category. With specs like these, it is highly recommended! The Ortofon 2M Red

From the Pro-Ject 1, all turntables - regardless of price - were made with the same basic principles: Which brings me to my favorite, stealth feature of the Pro-Ject: a second belt that allows it to play 78rpm discs, a gift to those of us with beloved shellac collections. The Rega is big-sounding enough for the lush electronic soundscapes laced with synth chords to sound bold and atmospheric too. It gets into a Saturday night feeling with the album’s pop melodies, and up-tempo drums are energetic and punctual in the mix. Most Debut owners are already aware of Acryl it – a stylish acrylic platter that elevates the performance of all Debut variants via resonance control. Now you can further upgrade the platter assembly with Pro-Ject’s Debut Alu Sub-Platter – a higher-precision design that adds mass to the drive system, thus delivering improved speed stability and even more resonance control than Acryl it record platter alone. Whether you own the new Debut Carbon EVO, Debut Carbon DC, Esprit, RecordMaster, or even the older Debut III (among others!), your analog system stands to benefit from the Debut Alu Sub-Platter. Considerations for 78rpm Records The Debut Carbon EVO focuses on the core aspects that make a turntable sound great. Technically correct design – expert craftsmanship – handmade in the EU. This turntable is built to last you a lifetime! Redesigned motor suspension

Whether or not the Debut Carbon Evo is the best record player for you might be decided by whether you prefer its fuller, more relaxed character or the more spritely and lean alternative of its main competitor. What is clear from the 10 stars shared between the two is that there is no clear winner for every listener. The Carbon EVO is the result decades of development of the Debut turntable line, with the company incorporating changes that improve both performance (anti-resonant platter lining) and user experience (speed switch). The design provides good performance and is compatible with many of the Debut family components, making upgrades easy without needing to replace your entire turntable. Getting ready to spin some vinyl on the Pro-Ject Carbon Evo turntable. Some Things You Might Not Like About the Debut Carbon EVO Turntable The system has well-controlled, articulate, and detailed bass, without overemphasis.Rhythm sections were performed with a good sense of timing, good speed, and volume, avoiding any exaggeration. One of the most significant aspects of this test has been to discover that some of the upgrades that Pro-Ject offers for the Debut Carbon Evo are more about ensuring it delivers the level of performance you might expect from the basic turntable but when used in more demanding conditions. The Cork IT, High Power IT and Absorb IT are less about boosting the performance of an optimally set up Carbon Evo and more about ensuring that it continues to work in spaces with more static electricity, with devices with two wire mains and in rooms where footfall is an issue. What’s more, they do this very effectively indeed. The Ground IT potentially also fits in this category too as it allows the Pro-Ject to function as the maker intended regardless of the surface you have placed it on.Heavy steel and TPE damped Pro-Ject added a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) ring on the inside of the platter. The result is an even quieter and noiseless operation with less wow and flutter. The metal-based platter is heavy at 1.7kg, it features a thermoplastic elastomer damper on the inside rim that creates a flywheel effect. Pro-Ject claim this delivers a “quieter and noiseless operation with less wow and flutter”.
