During the Troubles, men from the SAS and SBS would serve tours with 14 Company. It was good experience for the special forces soldiers, who would not only enhance their assigned Det with their particular skills, but they also would, on completing their tour, return to their units with invaluable operational experience. It is also suspected that members of the British army’s 14th Intelligence Company, a controversial reconnaissance unit working alongside the SAS, may also have been involved in the operation. Selection and training of personnel from all arms of the British Armed Forces was conducted in a number of locations in Great Britain.
