The Pro Scout is only available with needle nose pliers and standard wire cutters, which we think says interesting things about Gerber’s triangular replaceable blades. The Wave+ is Leatherman’s flagship multi tool, the same as the MP600 is for Gerber. It’s slightly smaller when closed and weighs half an ounce less. It’s also a standard butterfly open multi tool with scissors, replaceable wire cutter blades, and both a saw and included bit drivers.

It always sits funny with us that multi tool makers count a lanyard ring as a ‘tool’. Is it a useful feature? It's an efficient way to do business. Kind of like how automakers share body platforms. One handle of the new Center Drive looks pretty much like a CAD copy/paste of the MP600 with added parts. Now they don't have to stamp out 20 different serrated blades. They've got one in two colors that fit into 20 or so models. Would your average collector consider those variations desirable like how SAK-collectors will buy a tool just for the scale colors? Likely not to that extent but it's a windfall for the average consumer who gets what they want without having to buy something else. Gerber really shows their desire to ‘do things differently’ with the design of the MP600’s can and bottle openers. Unlike basically every other multi tool and swiss army knife on the market Gerber choose to separate these into two tools. The needle nose pliers are also among the most valuable components of this Gerber multi-tool. It has a tip, which is small enough that it can handle more precise tasks, like getting rid of splinters and bending fish hooks. It provides an extra grip, thanks to its beak, which has small serrations to enhance it even further.
