Description

The FTZ and FTZ II are the same, except that the FTZ II has no tripod foot so it's easier to use with the Z9 and it's large grip. Use a blower or soft brush to remove dust, being careful not to rub or scratch the inside of the adapter. Before proceeding, select Firmware version in the camera SETUP MENU and check the current mount adapter (MA) firmware version.

It cannot be mounted on F mount (Nikon digital SLR) or 1 mount cameras (Nikon 1 advanced cameras with interchangeable lenses) or used with 1 NIKKOR lenses. In the 1987 Canon introduced the EF mount and abandoned the FD lens mount - no backward compatible nothing zilch - not even an attempt - their way or highway and then they introduced the EF-S lens mount - not compatible with full frame cameras, EF-M for mirrorless and the latest R mount. The Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter adapts nearly all F-mount lenses to Z-mount camera bodies with no loss of image quality or speed as the original FTZ but with a refined design that removes the tripod mount and accommodates wider tripod plates for more comfort when shooting with cameras with a built-in or attached grip or wireless transmitter.Camera technical details can get complicated quickly, but we all need a place to start before diving into the deep end. Canon had already sold 10 million EF lenses and had in lens image stabilization before Nikon sold their first AF-S lens, so I guess Canon had fairly robust quality and internal electronics.

the only thing I can advise is to read again the answers that 5 different posters already kindly provided you. If Nikon was smart, if they had a good electronic mount strategy from the start, they would have the manual compatibility with ancient lenses (that they have) and 100% compatibility with all of their electronic lenses. You are comparing Mt Everest (what Canon did in the 80s and may soon do again with the M mount with millions of people impacted) to a small hill (the only partial support by Nikon of lenses more than 20 years older, partial support that may only be temporary) and telling us they have the same height.

If you think it was even possible to make the FD mount compatible with fully electronic AF lenses you are crazy.

Compared to Sony/Canon only having support back to the 80's that sounds like they had amazingly good mount design strategy. However, the LA-EA5 dropped the SLT mirror and PDAF unit (relying on the main-sensor PD even for screw-drive lenses), and switched to more compact motors, removing the foot. My Z7 does not show the effects of distortion correction as I'm composing as the EOS R does, and worse, the Z7 often only partially corrects the distortion of lenses on the FTZ adapter. With DSLRs AF got slow and buggy and only worked with the center sensor, while with mirrorless you don't lose anything. To perform the update, you will need the memory card used in the camera and a compatible card reader. A dust- and drip-resistant build incorporates rubber seals for lens and camera connections as well as buttons and levers. What I know for a fact is that I have not found a single pre AF-S lens that was able to track well even on the best focusing DSLR ever, the D6. Canon ditched the 42 mm diameter FD mount (smaller then Sony E mount) and went with the 54mm diameter EF fully electronic mount.

Built from magnesium alloy, the Mount Adapter FTZ II is strong and lightweight with a durable finish. So if your only proof that their design strategy was crap is that a single piece of 2021 gear doesn't have a tiny motor in it kind of proves that there is very little wrong with their mount. We've been using a full production version of this 120 fps sports camera, to see what you gain (and, perhaps, lose). Auto exposure shooting is enabled for hundreds of F-mount lenses, while those with a built-in autofocus motor retain full AF abilities. This system is benefitted by the high-speed communication of the Z interface along with the speed of the sensor that enables AF readings to occur at up to 120 fps.
